She's read everything - I warn you...

Desperate for ideas.

Had some BRILLIANT suggestions for ds, got them all, and he loved them all.

Now it's her turn.

Also Podkayne of Mars by Robert Heinlein, for something completely different...

EldritchCleavage · 25/09/2012 12:16

S. E. Hinton, M.E. Kerr, Judy Blume?

DD really liked Ash, also the Kevin and Sadie books.

Sally Lockhart quartet by Phillip Pullman
Time Riders
Kane Chronicles

On the animal theme, and in the same vein as the Durrell books (though not funny) has she read King Solomon's Ring / As The Falcon Her Bells / Ring of Bright Water (sorry can't remember authors for any of them though)?

Last one is Gavin Maxwell.

Travel, how about William Dalrymple's debut, Xanadu. He wrote it when he was about 23. Funny and young.

The precious ramotse series ?

To kill a mocking bird, cry the beloved country, a certain smile, 1984,

Some of those recent memoirs from China?

The periodic table?

Margaret Atwood? Carol shields? Anne Tyler?

Hully - great. My DD is a huge JG fan so I thought your DD might like. She will probably love The Perks of Being a Wallflower too, if she hasn't read it already.

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 09:37

thanks mumsnot, had never heard of john green!

civil, I love all those, but dd won't yet. One of my fave books is Searching For Caleb.

Hully - if she likes the Chinese Cinderella series, then I would also recommend 'Revolution is not a Dinner Party' - bizarre title, good book.

My DD has just read 'Gone With The Wind' and absolutely adored it. It's made me read it again and I'm loving it too.

Themumsnot · 28/09/2012 11:23

DD was looking for something to read yesterday and I gave her The Bell Jar. She's feeling very 'different' and isolated at school atm so it was either a really good idea or a really bad one.

City of Bone
City of Ashes
City of Glass

Far, far superior to the Twilight series. Also try 'Ashes' by Ilsa Brick if she liked Hunger Games.
