What is your dc's favourite 'read aloud book'?

I have to read stories to toddlers at work and am looking for ideas, my youngest is 10 so I feel I might be a bit out of date.

Dr Suess 'The cat in the hat' its gone through 3 generations in my family and has still got pride of place on the bookshelf.

all classics, i'm trying to think of recently written ones that we all enjoy.

The Gruffalo's Child and Tabby McTat are current favourites.

Room on a Broom, Tiddler, Whale & the Snail are lovely.
The Large Family- jill Murphy
Harry and the dinosaurs by Adrain Reynolds and ermm someone else..
Obvs: Spot and kipper books for very young toddlers (sorry for list,dh is talking to me and I'm pretending to listen)
Oh the Emily Gravvet books- Monkey and me.
Rosen's The bear in the cave- I love that book.

Avoid: Sodding Thomas they do not scan, very difficult to read aloud.

At that age, DS especially liked most of the ones that other people have listed plus:

Allan Ahlberg (actually we still love him - The Pencil is fab)
Meg and Mog
Splat the Cat
Hairy McClary

oh and the blue kangaroo ones - can't remember the name of the author

I like reading Nick Sharratt out loud. They have lovely bright illustrations, easy to follow rhymes and lots of opportunities for the children to join in. They always get plenty of giggles. DS' favourite is Don't Put Your Finger In The Jelly Nelly.

of course, julia donaldson! we particularly like a squash and a squeeze. and yes, nick sharratt. his illustrations are fab, so bright and colourful, they really hold my children's attention.

anything by shirley hughes. she's a national treasure.

Try Jump In! and All Change! by Ian Whybrow and David Melling.

They are great to read out loud - funny and with good rhythm to the words.

I am storing all this info up, am surprised that so many are still familiar from dd being little; it makes it a bit less intimidating though.

Green eggs and ham by Dr Seuss and Who's in the loo are firm favourites. Avoid Fox in Socks though - it's a git to read as it's full of tongue twisters. I think anything that has a good rhyme and repetition so the children can join in with the words is good to read.
