My 3 year old likes dinosaurs, all types of vehicles especially trains, animals etc- typical boy things. Can anyone suggest some new ( or more unusual) book titles that he may like? We read a lot and I am running out of ideas.

DS is just 3. We've packed this and this to take on holiday. By the same author, we got this from the library and is fab. you'll never look at pink cake icing in the same way again! We also got Ginger from the library and had to buy DS his own copy - it's particularly good if you own a cat; we don't but DS still likes it.

If your son's never read Pumpkin Soup that's also worth reading. DS has recently had {http://www.amazon.co.uk/And-Train-Goes-William-Bee/dp/1406312479/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345802214&sr=8-1 this]] which I think I found through a mumsnet recommendation.

Sorry, that last paragraph should read If your son's never read Pumpkin Soup that's also worth reading. DS has recently had this which I think I found through a mumsnet recommendation.

Usborne lift the flap books particularly castles and how things work.

Bearcrumble · 25/08/2012 08:30

How about Mr Gumpy's Outing and Mr Gumpy's Motor Car (John Burningham).

Trouble at the Dinosaur Cafe? www.amazon.co.uk/Trouble-Dinosaur-Cafe-Brian-Moses/dp/0140569944/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1345879775&sr=1-1

My 3yr old really enjoys How to Grow a Dinosaur by Carly Hart and Ed Eaves. There are two others about the same little boy which he also likes Supermarket Zoo and one about aliens.

Purpleprickles · 25/08/2012 08:53

Oh and he also loves the Harry Horse books about Little Rabbit who can be quite naughty Smile

fruitpastille · 25/08/2012 09:15

Oliver jeffers books are simple but thought provoking. Emily gravett also good. Harry and the bucket full of dinosaurs or the robots are always popular. Winnie the witch also good if you want a bit more text.

Vagaceratops · 25/08/2012 09:22

Billy's Bucket is a favourite here.

Boys2mam · 25/08/2012 09:22

The aliens are coming by Colin McNaughton
Who's afraid of the big bad bunny by Steve Smallman

My three year old LOVES these books and they always make him laugh.

barefootcook · 26/08/2012 05:14

Thank you all- a great selection- we are off to the library.

We have just discovered Monstersaurus by the Ailens love underpants writers, my nearly 3 year old loves it.

BlueEyeshadow · 27/08/2012 17:42

Anything by Emily Gravett.

If he likes animals, there are some brilliant ones about cats:
Colin and the Snooze Box & Colin and the Wrong Shadow by Leigh Hodgkinson
There are Cats in this Book by Viviane Schwarz
Cats Ahoy by Peter Bentley

drjohnsonscat · 27/08/2012 22:43

My DS 3 also loves 'There are cats in this book'

Other faves

The giant jam sandwich
Jam jim jam

And all the Tinga Tinga tales.

Pancakeflipper · 27/08/2012 22:45

My 2 boys have both loved the Tony Mitton books - Super Submarines. Tremendous Tractors etc.... You can buy a lovely set of them. My DS2 is 3 and loves them at bedtime. And I love them too as they are nice and short.

MmeLindor · 27/08/2012 22:52

Was going to suggest Aliens Love Underpants, but see it has already been done.

You can't go wrong with The Gruffallo and if you are anywhere near Sittingbourne, you can take him along to meet the Gruffalo this Sat

I always enjoyed being read the Doctor Seuss books as a child? I really enjoyed the rhyme, and they are a bit longer - but have simple and followable plots. I would recommend those...I always liked The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who and Yurtle the Turtle

BlueChampagne · 11/09/2012 13:11

Fireman Sam and Octonauts books popular in our house.
