Jean Plaidy- suitable for 9 year olds?

I have a reading and history mad dd who has worked her way through all the My Story books. We were at Kensington Palace at the weekend where she picked up a Jean Plaidy book. I know there are loads of her books around but without me having to read them myself, does anyone know if the content is suitable for a 9 year old?

I'm sure I was reading them about the age of 11 if that's any help.

The shelves of our convent boarding school library were groaning with them back in the Seventies so based on that I would say they are fine - you wouldn't believe how much those nuns censored our reading.

This link is also good for historical fiction for children (as well as the Jean Plaidy!)

They're quite heavy on the romance side and I can remember one being a bit saucy. Love Jean Plaidy but I think there's more appropriate historical fiction for a nine year old.

What sort of thing would you recommend madamehooch?

Roman Mysteries, Egyptian Chronicles, Once/Then/Now by Morris Gleitzman, Back Home/Goodnight Mr Tom by Michelle Magorian, Eleventh Orphan trilogy by Joan Lingard, Indian in the Cupboard, TV Time Travellers by Pete Johnson, Lady Grace mysteries, Time Travelling Cat series by Julia Jarman, Street Child by Berlie Doherty, Tudor Chronicles by Terry Deary and not forgetting Michael Morpurgo!

Some great suggestions from madamehooch, and Alison Prince is another author your dd might like. My history-mad dd (7) found one of her Tudor books at the Tower of London. Jean Plaidy may be a little racy! - although she wrote two books I remember with great fondness, and bought for dd. 'The Young Elizabeth' and 'The Young Mary Queen of Scots' are quite suitable, and available second-hand, although good copies can be rather expensive.
