I think DD is on the verge of growing out of her Judith Kerr books but I wanted to check I haven't missed out on any particular gems before it's too late.

We have the following that we love:

Mog and Bunny (my favourite)
Mog's Christmas
Mog the Forgetful Cat
Mog on Fox Night
Mog and the VET
The Tiger who came to Tea

We are not so keen on:

Mog and the Baby
Mog and the Granny

Does anyone have any particular recommendations from the following:

Mog in the Dark
Mog and Barnaby
Mog's Bad Thing
Goodbye Mog
Birdie Halleluyah
The Other Goose
Twinkles, Arthur and Puss

Rumer Godden books are a recent discovery. We only have Kindle of Kittens, The Old Woman who lived in a Vinegar Bottle, and Holly and Ivy. Are there any others of similar length that are readable in one sitting at bedtime?

Many thanks

Goodbye Mog is VERY VERY SAD . . .

Yes I thought it might be! One you buy when your own cat dies I guess?

Goodbye Mog is sad, but I think I found it sadder than the children. It's quite fun for them, and it ends with Mog floating up towards the sun. It was one of the first books ds chose to read to himself. It would do very well to help a child deal with death.

Mog's Bad Thing I found a little bit cryptic for the age it's aimed at. I mean, to an adult, it's obvious that Mog has done a wee (or worse) in Mr Brown's chair (because she's afraid of going outside) but it had to be slightly pointed out to the dc. And it uses the term lavatory, I think, which wasn't a term they'd come across. They did like it though, but it's not my favourite.

I didn't know Rumer Godden had written books for that age, so I can't comment on them. I've enjoyed some of her older children's stories though.

Rumer Godden's books about dolls are some of my favourite childhood books - Miss Happiness & Miss Flower, Little Plum, and Tottie. Not sure if they're in print any more, though.

Would definitely be good to read aloud to girls aged 5/6 or up, I'd guess.

We have twinkles Arthur and puss and it's one of my faves Smile

Judith Kerr's one night at the zoo is also lovely...

Many thanks for the recommendations. Just had an ebay splurge so Mog's Bad Thing (Mog weeing will definitely appeal to DD!), Tottie, Twinkles and One Night at the Zoo are on their way.

Miss Happiness and Miss Flower is £10 on ebay Shock so it'll be library for that one!

Oh dear! I found my copy of Miss H & Miss F in a second hand shop, didn't know it was so hard to come by now!
