Does anyone know of any books similar to the David Walliams ones ? My son has really enjoyed reading them and I'm looking for something similar for him.

David Walliams writes in a very similar way to Roald Dalh. Has he read any Dahl?

MerylStrop · 24/06/2012 12:56

My DS would like some tips too
(yes, he's done dahl)

serenola · 24/06/2012 15:56

Yes. He's read all of the Roald Dahl books and thoroughly enjoyed them. He read those before he left primary and then we had difficulty finding any fiction that actually appealed.Once we discovered the David Walliams ones he read most of them in a couple of weeks. I'm now trying to keep the ball rolling by finding something else before he finishes the last one !

Andy Stanton, 'Mr Gump'?

Steala · 27/06/2012 12:25

What are the David W books like? My main knowledge of him comes from Little Britain, so I didn't really associate him with children's books. My 7 and 9 year olds loved him on BGT so I bet they would love his books (if they're appropriate for that age group).

Alurkatsoftplay · 27/06/2012 15:16

My DS loved Frank Cottrel Boyce's books around the same age. Think there was 'Millions' and a couple of others...

Leeds2 · 27/06/2012 17:59

Frank Cotterell Boyce wrote a similar sort of book about theft of works of art. Can't remember if it was called Millions though .........

Mr Gum books.

Alurkatsoftplay · 27/06/2012 20:24

Ah yes, Leeds, that was 'Framed.' There was also 'Cosmic'. They were all pretty good.
Serenola, has your DS read Diary of a Wimpey kid? They all love that.

workshy · 27/06/2012 20:27

just asked DD who loved David Walliams and she says don't bother with Mr Gum, it's rubbish apparently

wimpy kid is a big favourite though (as well as the Hunger Games trilogy but not really like david walliams)

TheMonster · 27/06/2012 20:45

Millions is very popular.

Leeds2 · 27/06/2012 20:53

Thanks, Alurk! I didn't think that Millions sounded right for the book I was thinking of!

There's also There's A Boy In The Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar. And the Jiggy McCue books by Michael Lawrence.

jongleuse · 28/06/2012 21:25

Frank Cottrell Boyce and Louis Sachar definitely-both brilliant and funny.
Mr Gum author Andy Stanton is genius if he's not read them already.
Also Einstein's Underpants by Anthony McGowan, have also his heard Donut Diaries are funny. Not sure how old he is from your post but presumably secondary so how about Terry Pratchett? Or Daniel Pinkwater who is the American Terry Pratchett, weird and funny.
