So I was in the doctor's surgery with dd (nearly 6) yesterday, and she was looking at some big posters showing skeletons and organs in the body (she always finds these really interesting) and we were talking about parts of the body.

Though we had not been talking about this specifically, she then asks me (full volume in the doctor's waiting room of course Blush Grin) how a man gets a seed into a woman to make a baby (she has this basic from having visited the Natural History museum). I told her that grown up men and women who love each other very much have a type of special cuddle where the seed gets into the woman.

DD then said that she thought maybe the woman tips her head back and the man puts the seed into her neck Hmm Grin. I think it's probably a good idea to give her better information!

I said to her that it was difficult for me to explain there and then, but I would get a book with some pictures that explained about it, and we could sit down and look at it together.

So, any recommendations? (also if anything contained other stuff regarding the human body too, I think she'd like that). I want to find something that's age-appropriate - I don't want to overload her with information right now, but also I don't want her carrying around confused misinformation either!

Thanks

Ha Ha. My DD said exactly the same thing!

My N01 recommendation is "The Body Book" by Claire Rayner

www.amazon.co.uk/Body-Book-Non-fiction-Claire-Rayner/dp/0590556088/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1339837861&sr=1-1

It explains everything clearly and pitches it just right. When I was teaching this was on the reading list for Yr1.

Good Luck!

We had a book called "How did I begin?" I really liked it as it explained everything in simple terms but using the correct terminology. Dd's look of horror when she realised what mummies and daddies needed to "do" was a picture! Grin

Thanks - I'll look both of those up :)

I am just hoping dd remains horrified about all that for a good while yet Wink
