Are there any books for 7yo girls featuring time travel?

apart from the ORT Magic Key books which she is rather enjoying?

She is currently planning to write to Jacqueline Wilson to ask her to write 'Tracy Beaker Builds A Time Machine' but I'm not holding out much hope Confused

How about a Wrinkle in Time ? Or the William Mayne time books ?

DilysPrice · 18/04/2012 18:30

She's maybe too young to read Charlotte Sometimes herself but maybe you could read it to her? Or A Traveller in Time? Or some of the younger Dr Who books of course.

TunipTheVegemal · 18/04/2012 18:31

Those are good but for when she's a lot older.
I've got A Traveller In Time and Charlotte Sometimes, both of which I'm sure she'll love, but not quite yet - she's nearly 7 and reads well for her age but not at 10 year old level.

x post Dilys!

Are there easy Dr Who ones? I assumed they were all for older kids as Dr Who itself is a bit scary.

The Magic Tree House series

DilysPrice · 18/04/2012 18:39

Yes there's a few Dr Who novels for younger readers - try www.doctorwhochildrensbooks.co.uk which has a list and a sample chapter from one of them.

TunipTheVegemal · 18/04/2012 18:55

Thank you! Magic Treehouse looks good. Will check out the Dr Who ones. She loves Sarah Jane Adventures.

Has she read The Lottie Project by Jacqueline Wilson?

Have you seen the My Story books? Not quite time travel but they might interest her.

DonInKillerHeels · 18/04/2012 19:23

I second A Wrinkle in Time, though I do remember I found it quite scary. Would the Narnia books sort of work?

Takver · 18/04/2012 20:17

The only one that I can think of straight off is The Time Garden by Edward Eager. I haven't read this since I was a child, so I'm not 100% sure of the age range, but I think definitely younger than Charlotte Sometimes for example. You'd probably have to get it from Abebooks or similar, long out of print in this country I think sadly.

Takver · 18/04/2012 20:36

Have just been looking at reviews for the other books in the series (Half Magic and Magic by the Lake) and I think it should be fine for a 7 - 8 year old.

GrimmaTheNome · 18/04/2012 20:38

I've just remembered a 'classic' where there's time travel - Toms Midnight Garden. Not sure what age (I read it to DD quite a long time ago)

Finocchio · 19/04/2012 14:50

If you want retro time travel books, E Nesbit the story of the Amulet (and maybe the house of Arden or whatever it's called?). A bit old for 7yos but one of mine liked E Nesbit at that age.

Time Travelling Cat

timetosmile · 19/04/2012 14:59

You must must must get the Little Princesses series by Katie Chase...girl whisked off for adventures of daring-do in all corners of the earth and through time saving ancient Egyptians, native Americans etc.
Girlie, but in a good feisty sort of way not like Rainbow fairies and nice illustrations too.
DD ripped through the whole series in a couple of months and was when her reading really took off!

TunipTheVegemal · 19/04/2012 16:10

These are looking brilliant, thank you all.
I have all the E. Nesbits but they're a bit beyond her, I think.

She loves The Lottie Project.
I think I might get some of the My Story books out of the library for myself....

A lot of the others look like they are going to hit the spot. Useful to have such a big list too, as it increases the chances that one of them will be in the library!

www.amazon.co.uk/Time-Spinner-Roy-Apps/dp/1842702319/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334848635&sr=1-1 DD quite enjoyed this at about that age. It is out of print but amazon seem to have quite a few 1p copies.

tribpot · 19/04/2012 16:29

What a shame, I was going to recommend Come Back Lucy but I see it's long out of print.

Also recommend A Rag A Bone and a Hank of Hair although for an older reader.

I did an Amazon search on time travel books - I quite fancy the one at the top myself!

There is a book called Beswitched which is a sort of Charlotte Sometimes for younger readers. Girl goes back in time to 1930s and has to cope without modern "stuff".

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 21/04/2012 23:57

When Marnie was There
Baldur's Bones
A couple of the Artemis Fowl books have time travel
Likewise a couple of the Animorphs books
Found by Margaret Haddix (who wrote the Among the Hidden series)
