Amazing teen fiction suggestions

I am an avid teen fiction reader (English teacher, so can always pretend I?m buying books for professional purposes when DH complains ). However, am in mainland Europe and don?t often get the chance to browse in an English language bookshop. Amazon is fine for buying what you want, but no good for browsing. Used to rely on an amazing librarian when I was teaching in the UK for recommendations.

So am feeling out of touch and would like some suggestions for some great teen fiction. I love Meg Roscoff, Marcus Sedgewick, Patrick Ness?and have read things like Alex Rider, Twilight, Hunger Games.

Any suggestions gratefully received?

Lady: My Life As A Bitch - it's horrible. Writing for shock tactics and little merit at all. His 'Sara's Face' is creepy and horrible but at least it's interesting, whereas 'Lady' is just being 'out there' to prove that he's 'out there' as it were.

Has anyone suggested the Cherub and Henderson boys series, by Robert Muchamore? Dd1 (year 6)moved from Alex Rider to them. They're another school for spy type story.

She was a bit when a lad in her form told her she shouldn't be reading them as there's swearing in them. Haven't worked out (as he's an avid fan too) whether he's being chivalrous, jealous or something else.

I've read some of the Cherub ones DeWe. Quite liked them.

Haven't read Mortal Engines Kayano, but liked "Here lies Arthur".

So much reading to do!

how about Dead Boy Talking by Linda Strachan
or dd2 has read a lot of Cathy MacPhail recently and liked it
Nothing by Janne Teller (original is in Danish I think)
Divergent - can't remember who the author is
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr if you would like some non-vampire supernatural romance
Far Rockaway by Charlie Fletcher was an interesting read, not sure how many teens would read it though

The Joshua Files series by MG Harris...don't think they're to 'young' for you as stayed up til 1am to get to the end of one of them then had to pretend to DS that each new twist and turn was new to me!

CS Lewis' Sci-fi trilogy...can't remember name but I read them as a teen and they were bewitching.

There are also the HIVE books and Mark Walden and the Maximum Ride books by James Patterson.

Eva Ibbotson- not the kids stuff but A Secret Countess etc.
Celia Rees- try Pirates and Sovay
Hilary McKay- the Casson Family series. This is more kids fiction but i'm 17 and they're some of the best books i've ever read
Girl, Missing- Sophie McKenzie
The Book Thief- Markus Zusak- honestly one of the best books ever!
Shiver [series]- Maggie Stiefvater
James Patterson- the Maximum Ride series (i loved the Michael Bennett ones too)
I'd assume you've read The Help (not so much teen i guess) but i loved that.

if i were closer to my bookshelf i'd have more suggestions!

DD, aged 14, has just bought Numbers 2 after having devoured Numbers in a matter of hours! Sorry, I don't know the author but the story is about a girl who can see the date that you are going to die when she looks at your face. Sounds corny, but I enjoyed the first book at least.

DD has also read the Shiver series by Maggie Stiefvater, as mentioned above by Alice, and thoroughly enjoyed that too.

Lots of wonderful suggestions. So many I haven't heard of.

I've read those cilldara and I agree they're great.

jubilee I started reading the Chartlie Higson zombie books while I was doing nightfeeds with DS and was so petrified I had to stop and find something less scary for the dead of the night (felt like Joey from Friends putting The Shining in the freezer...The fear and the Dead were not allowed upstairs AT ALL!).

Yes there certainly is a new genre of YA GORE !!!! I can't remember which book but one upset me ; adults disappear kids left and all the babies in the nursery left to their own devices!

Cherubs is a fab series great for reluctant readers who are looking to read a 'proper' novel. Muchamore knows what children want!

Do read candor it is an original!

Also have just started itch by radio 1 &2 DJ Simon mayo seems good so far.

The yr 7 & 8 girls are into the Gallagher girls series meg cabot- cherubs for girls?!

I saw Itch on amazon, but was waiting til it came down in price a bit. It it really THE Simon Mayo?! When I saw it I just presumed it was someone with the same name. Got me hearing the Confessions music now...

Yes Simon mayo's first book now radio 2 but was radio 1 back in the day (old gimmer emocion)

Susan Price - The Sterkarm Handshake and The Sterkarm Kiss. Both excellent YA fiction, though quite dark.

Also Charlie Fletcher's Stoneheart Trilogy.

I love the Vampire Accadamy books by Richelle Mead... About a school of Vampires, 3 differnt types and the dramas they get into. Really really good x

I've read all this year's costa nominations (children's section) and recommend Maggot Moon - Sally Gardner and The Seeing by Diana Hendry.
