Dd (13) wants books like these. She has read loads of classics etc but for now she wants books that mirror her teenage experiences (subtext: don't suggest alternative and better books...), preferably funny.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Can't remember who it's by though.

And feeling sorry for celia is good too.

shrinkingnora · 21/02/2012 19:41

Sue limb wrote girl, 15 and there are many more by her.

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 19:42

Sorry I was a bit short, was on my way to parents' evening to be told DD is amazing. I found Sue Limb to be very funny indeed and I liked Louise Rennison as well. Similar sense of humour, I think. The other one is Australian (? NZ? can't remember). A bit old fashioned but also very good are SE Hinton's books. She wrote The Outsiders and Rumblefish but it depends on how alternative your DD is. I read a lot of fanatsy at that age too - David Eddings etc

Hullygully · 21/02/2012 20:51

Thank you, I shall investigate.

Can't help as I have a 9 y/o, but might it be worth posting in chat? I think maybe most of the posters on here have smaller dc.

(Either that or you've just identified a massive gap in the market and should start writing immediately Grin )

Hullygully · 22/02/2012 12:44

thanks takver

What about Facebook? Surely would have to include facebook

< thinks of complicated murder mysteries where the critical clue comes from a hidden facebook page >

Knittedslippers · 22/02/2012 13:25

Sarah Manning, Diary of a Crush series
Joanna Nadin, The Life of Riley and My so-called Life
Louise Rennison, Stop in the name of pants
Startled by his furry shorts
Knocked out by my nunga-nungas
Luuurve is a many trousered thing
And that's when it fell off in my hand
Dancing in my nuddy-pants
Then he ate my boy entrancers

There is also another Cathy something author the DDs read, will have a think.

Hullygully · 22/02/2012 14:32

Casson family stories (think there was a thread on here about them?) light frothy bittersweet funny (preteens upwards reading age-wise)
Hmmm (thinks) Sarah Dessen is good not laugh out loud funny but well-written romance/family stuff -sort of good quality chick-fic for teenagers. Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants and The Earth, My Butt and other big round things are funny. Hmmm (thinks harder) I've just read My Secret Scribbled Notebooks (might be a little old for her) which is brilliant. Thinking about what I was reading at 13?Nancy Mitford and I Capture the Castle?
