We need some English reading books for DS1 (age 7) who lives in France

I think I posted a while ago on the "wanted" section (not even sure it still exists!) but basically I am in France and DS1's reading in English has just started to take off.

He has started devouring chapter books (with lots of pictures) in French, but gets through one a day. We are becoming heavy library users!

I would like to give him similar books to read in English (my mum ordered lots of the oxford reading series - Biff & Chip but he's kind of bypassed that stage) but obviously ordering brand new books and paying for postage to France will get expensive if they are the quite short books that he needs at this stage to build up his confidence in English.

Would anyone have a job lot of this type of reader that they would like to sell me (obviously I would pay for postage too).

You can PM me, and also I would be grateful for suggestions of books to buy - I bought a "Magic Tree House" book for him, which he loved, but it was slightly too hard for him right now on his own- we have been taking it in turns reading pages.

Thanks

Do the book people deliver to France? They usually have some great deals on books.

We have just bought ds these for ds for Christmas, they are really good, and have alternate pages, one that you read, then a simplified summary for your child to read. I guess he will probably enjoy reading books that he is interested in? Also got the Rohald Dahl collection... Twits, Charlie and the chocolate factory as they arer classics Grin

Unfortunately they don't (just checked). They deliver to Spain though Angry

I think the Roald Dahl's are a bit hard for him at the moment, he needs something with not too much text per page to build his confidence in English (his French reading has taken off but he's getting much more practice with that at school).

The ben10 would be good then

Have you come across Astrosaurs (sure Amazon can help you out)? Friend's DS (6) has been devouring them.

Another vote for Astrosaurs.
Horrid Henry and Dirty Bertie, too.

Thanks will look at those.

Dinosaur Cove series
Favour Dirty Bertie over HH
Horrible histories. Quite wordy but DS 7 just loves the gory facts.

Barefoot Books have chapter books, and I've just checked on their community page and browsed profiles and there are ten listed ambassadors in France - if one is near you, that could be a cheaper option.
