Bedtime stories for toddlers?

Hi there,
It's DH's birthday soon and the first year I want to buy him a present from DS who is only 3 months old. I thought it might be nice to get him a book of bedtime stories that he can read to DS when he's slightly older - but a really nice hardback book. Any recommendations? I guess stories specifically for little boys to be read to by their dad would be ideal but not sure if that exists. I know we can read to babies from a young age but don't know when they can understand what is being said??
Thanks!
Xx

I don't think anybody knows for sure exactly when babies understand what is being said but there's lots of evidence to suggest that they can follow conversations (and so presumably stories) from a very young age. Anyway, they will enjoy the closeness and the attention at any age, plus you'll be starting them (hopefully) on a lifetime of loving books. Male role models that value literacy are so important for boys.

Sorry. Blush. That's not really what you asked.

You could buy some really nice sets that your DH would enjoy - Thomas or something from his childhood perhaps. Your son will enjoy them on different levels as he grows. Or something with a simple message but actions to 'do' with DS r something sleepy - like Guess How Much I Love You? Goodnight Moon? Tell me something happy before I go to sleep?

Or what we used to call a 'treasury' - if you put 'classic bedtime stories' or similar into Amazon. You could do a lot worse than the set of AA Milne books - the two pooh books and the two poetry. I still read mine.

here is good for boxed sets. Can you cunningly find out what DH's favourite book was and buy a really nice edition of that?

Thanks very much, I've ordered a few bits and bobs from the book people!
I agree that it's great to get them used to having a book in front of them from an early age-getting used to turning pages and describing what's on each page etc.
Thanks for the help!
