Michael Morpurgo
Some Jacqueline Wilson, not all are suitable
Mr Stink
Pippi Longstocking

DD is now 9.5, but going back a year or so she liked (and still does like)

How to Train your Dragon series
Captain Underpants
Lionboy trilogy

plus lots of old favourites as you mention - particularly the Blyton school books (Naughtiest Girl in the School, Mallory Towers, et al)

My niece is 8 and loves the Rainbow Fairy books - there are loads to 'collect', and they are very sweet books. You can get them from virtually anywhere really and are all numbered or called 'Sarah the Sweet Shop Fairy' (etc), and aren't expensive so would be perfect to say to family that she was collecting them for birthdays etc. :)

Also, there are a range of books called The Trouble with xxx e.g. Life, Maggots, Christmas; they are very funny.

My 8 year old loves Pippi Longstocking, Clarice Bean, Judy Moody, How to Train your dragon, Mr Gum, Jacqueline Wilson and Roald Dahl.

What other books has she read herself and enjoyed?

DeWe · 01/11/2011 20:37

Dd2 has just turned 8 a couple of weeks ago, and she's read loads of Enid Blyton and has read about half the Arthur Ransome stuff. She chose Anne Frank's diary with her birthday money, which she enjoyed enough to ask for a sequel Hmm and I had to explain why it apparently stopped in the middle.
She was reading Tintin this evening as something fairly light she loves, but her favourite author is usually Jacqueline Wilson, although check them before she reads them as some of them are too adult in content.

Laura Ingalls Wilder, the Little House books.
