Skellig - what age is it for?

Read it on commute this morning and nearly missed stop / had to buy breakfast with very teary face.

I loved it. I'm not so worried about the odd "bollocks" in it but what age do you think DCs need to be to read it?

A lot of schools teach it in Year 7 (so age 11-12). I would say 9-10 up to be able to make an emotional connection with it.

Agree - I taught it to a year 7 class once. I quite enjoyed it myself, too!

My dd 10 really enjoyed it. It is a wonderful book and you are so engrossed in the story that you hardly notice this odd word. I took the view that she had to come across these sort of words at some point or other.

Lovely, DS1 is 9 in the spring and reads well and widely so might give it to him in a year. Don't want him to read everything too early and miss the point of books.

Thank youSmile

My DS1 read this in 1st year (age11-12). He hated it and reckons that it was the second worst book that he has ever been subjected to. The very worst, apparently, is Catcher in the Rye and the next worst was the criminal dog ( Curious incident of the Dog...)

I read it to a spellbound year 6 class. Love it.
