LADYBIRD BOOKS...

I grew up on these in the 70s .

I remember some of the pictures so vividly .

I now have a 4 year old ..... And id really love to find a collection of books that we could purchase gradually.......and build up slowly .

has anyone found something to replace classic ladybird books . ?

Hi spider as a bookshop manager (although we don't have a big childrens section and it's not my strong subject!) I've not come across anything like the ladybird series. I remember them really vividly too.
I was in a secondhand bookshop the other day and they had loads, maybe you could start with charity shops or Oxfam bookshops where you live if you want the ladybird ones? I bought a couple for my nephew for 50p each and he loves them.

This is a brilliant site...linkwhich lists lots of the old Ladybird titles. I saw on your other post that you weren't too keen on the idea of second-hand books from Ebay - you can actually get some great bargains, and the books are often in very good condition. The Well-Loved Tales series are probably some of the most sought after (Cinderella goes for silly prices!) and expensive, but there are many others which are reasonably priced. I have built up a good collection from charity shops, car boot sales, and Ebay, and DD loves them.

I love old Ladybird books too. I'm building up a collection for DS from Oxfam and other charity shops. You can find them fairly frequently and they are cheap (Oxfam is most expensive at 79p!)

They are available with new illustrations (Ladybird Tales) which, whilst not as lovely as the 70s series, are still very nice.
