Help very much needed for Parents in my Kindergarten very worried about how their dd will cope when she's not Numero Uno Hmm

Za Za's Baby brother by Lucy Cousins- this was invaluable when DD1 was feeling wobbly about being a big sister.

Oh thank you !

It will be lovely to give these lovely people some ideas - off to amazon for a nose Smile

My dd loved Rosie's Babies

Yes to Za Za's baby brother. Cute colourful pics and a family of zebras iirc.

I'm a Big Brother/Sister - shows fun and things that being the older siblng is (eating icr-cream, looking after them, etc)

All my favourites - Lovely, lovely book about 3 bears and their parents and about who's the favourite

Topsy and Tim and the new baby - Friend of their's has a new baby brother - good at showing what happens with new baby also shows breastfeeding.

There;s a house inside my mummy - more of an intro to pregnancy and what it will eventually mean, but still a very sweet and light hearted rhyming book.

It's a minefield out there! have just been reading some of the reviews - too american - not supportive for 'new baby'

I'm going to recommend Za Za definitely as I think this will appeal to thier DD with it's bright pictures

off to look up Rosie's Babies Smile

Annie Kubler - waiting for baby and my new baby. Lovely picture books so you can embellish the story to fit your own family.

My DD adores this book - if you look at it on Amazon you can flick through a few pages.

It's reassuring that the big sister is special and important, but the final message is that even when the baby grows up and they do stuff together, the big sister will still love and look after little brother.

Thank you Smile I'll pass on your recommendations and comments

I can also recommend 'How to be a Big Sister', which piprabbit mentioned. It's quite good fun with little jokes at the baby's expense (proving just how much better it is to be the big sister who can do everything). Although my DD was just 3 when DS was born and I do think a slightly older child would get more from it.

I also really like 'The New Baby' from the Usborne First Experience range. It is a very simple, straightforward and fairly traditional story, but I actually think it is just right for explaining this new experience to a young child. It takes them through the different stages: getting the nursery ready and reusing the children's old furniture; mum feeling tired and needing more help than normal; mum and dad having to go off to hospital in the middle of the night and the grandparents minding the older children; going into hospital to see mum and the baby.

If they are used to Usborne books they'll also recognise the illustrations, which might be comforting too.

Thank you everyone Smile

This particular little girl is going to be both a lovely and a very 'nose out of joint' big sister... I'm sure her lovely parents will get a selection of these to help her through what is going to be a very confusing time...

Mine loved this one Evie's seaside lullaby It helped that my DD had the same dress as the little girl in the book!

Many of Shirley Hughes's books feature some lovely, positive sibling relationships, and her 'Nursery Collection' series of books (including Bathwater's Hot, Colours, Two Shoes New Shoes - which feature a 3ish year old girl and her baby brother - were utterly indispensable to me when my 2nd child was born. They show lots of familiar domestic situations with the siblings interacting together, and they were very comforting and reassuring to read with my daughter who was exactly as you describe - 'a very lovely and a very nose out of joint' big sister!
