My daughter loved the HP books, now finished them all, and want another book/series of books to motivate her into reading feverishly once more?

Sorry I read it as "year 9" not 9 years old [thick]!

Yes hunger games definately not for a 9 year old...neither is the Gone series tbh!

Ooh let me think then 9 year olds...

Roald dahl of course.

My sister and I loved The Exiles series by Hilary McKay when we were that age.

Also, The Whitby Witches, Whitby Warlock and Whitby Child by Robin Jarvis were great too.

Percy Jackson

If she wants something different I also remember loving Cynthia Voigt - Homecoming and the sequels at not much older than that.

my 11yo is devouring the hunger games series...

9yo whizzed through percy jackson series last year - obsessively. and is reading the magyk/ flyte/ physik ones now...

a bit lighter but equally good are the cressida cowell dragon books. def get them if not read already. (7yo just reading them now) and of course lemony snicket v good.

did lol at bibbity's, but at 9 i think i was listening to the shipping forecast and plotting my own weather maps. Grin

Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin. Has several sequels

I read every genre but has she tried some of the old classics like:

Little House On The Prairie Books
Anne of Green Gables
Chalet School series
Little Women series

Not read all replies, but has anyone mentioned The Chronicles of Narnia? Got the whole set from The Works recently for £7.99.

I think Cynthia Voigt and Ursula Le Guin would be better kept for when she is a bit older. But there are nearly 50 Diana Wynne Jones for her to explore - starting with the Chrestomanci series. Wonderful author and so sad she has just died Sad

Some brilliant ideas here.

ShinyMoonInAPurpleSky · 17/04/2011 21:42

I didn't know Diana Wynne Jones had died that's so sad :( , I see it was only recently too. She was a fantastic author and I still love her books today!
