and ideas welcome, cheers! all i can think of is my naughty little sister. also my three year old niece is enjoying magic faraway tree (with her 5yo brother), so wondering if that? but fear may be too old. but would rather go too old than too young.

I personally think the magic faraway tree is too advanced - and scary!

What about a reference book - my DS started really getting into them at this age.

Something like a picture atlas is a good start - there are a few on amazon - we have this picture atlas.

Julia Donaldson books are also a favourite in this house too.

My DSs 3 & 5 really like these books and I'm sure she wouldn't have them:

the best nest

Are you my mother?

Big Dog little Dog

Could be worse - this is a big favourite!!

All a bit different and not the norm - older books but very good.

cheers - can't remember the tree being scary... but did think it was quite old for my niece and nephew to be reading.

she's a huge julia donaldson fan already, going to take a look at the atlas (think my nephew would like it lots too).

Just found kids books on MN Reviews, so off to scout through those.

Alternatively, what about Teddy Robinson? DD was given a hardcover book of Teddy Robinson stories at about that age, and it was a lovely present, much enjoyed by us both :)

I bought Teddy Robinson for DD on Takver's recommendation, and he's been a huge hit. I'm feeling a bit sad now we've got to the end, but back we go to the beginning...

For her fourth birthday (this week) I gave her the Nursery Alice, which she's also enjoying. It's very interesting to see how Carroll adapted his own book.

What about the Emily Brown books? They're fabulous for a girl her age.

vesela · 20/03/2011 23:10

oh good, I've just found there are more Teddy Robinson stories... it looks as if the stories in Teddy Robinson Himself are mostly different from the collection in the T.R. Storybook. Does anyone know?

Takver · 21/03/2011 19:36

Glad you liked TR, vesela :) Sadly I don't know what stories are in what books, we only ever had the one 'storybook'. There look like there are lots of different ones very cheaply on Abebooks though, so I guess it wouldn't be too expensive to find out.

Eloise - my 3 and 4 yr olds love it, though its aimed for slightly older. Eloise herself is supposed to be 6 - very funny, too.

Thank you, Takver! I'd thought Abebooks didn't post to where I am (because Amazon Marketplace didn't use to) but now I see they do (and so does AM, but for more).
