I am having something of a nostalgia fest and rereading childhood favourite books... Anyway I have just reread three of the Marlow twins series: Autumn Term, End of Term and Attic Term, which are the only ones I owned as a child (and have recuperated from my parents' loft). I never read Cricket Term... and it's not easy to find it again now... so could anyone tell me: how does Marie Dobson die in Cricket Term? and what else have I missed in that novel?

I love the other books in the series. My copy of Autumn Term is seriously battered....

I love A Ready Made Family too. My dd read them when she was having friendship issues at school - she found them really helpful because the relationships are so real compared to most school stories - and she saw lots of parallels with her won situation. Particularly when Nicky suddenly realizes that people who were friends with her often end up friends with someone else instead.

I think the way the Tim-Lawrie-Nicola friendship shifts is so interesting - Nicola, without thinking, really, assumes people prefer her to Lawrie (and they do, generally), but Tim goes from definite preference for Nicola early in Autumn Term, to almost resentment in End of Term, then in Attic Term they seem reconciled - it does reflect my memories of friendships at school, actually. Oh I do hope my DDs like these books in years to come like yours, Seeker.

Hmm, true, they do go into Lower IVA in End of Term, I had remembered it was IIIA. Still confused though by what the age gap is with the older sisters, and how the school years work.

Would love to read the non-school ones too. Am struggling not to hit ebay/Abe books...

There's also a poster on here that sang solo in Wade Minister like Nicola.

End of Term is a fantastic read at christmas, especially when we have all the same snowy conditions that make the play so atmospheric.
