Alex Rider - suitable for 9yo DD?

Are they interesting for girls (probably a v. silly question) and what age group are they aimed at? DD is a funny bean, she's very bright, but won't read anything challenging; gave up with Harry Potter 4, but loved the first three. She usually only reads books with animals in but doesn't like Michael Morpurgo, she says they're too sad. So I can't work out whether she'll like the Alex Rider ones.

My 10 yr old DD likes them, you might as well let her try one. I think they are perhaps aimed at age 10 - 14 but if she can manage Harry Potter then she can probably manage Alex Rider.

Might she like something like the Roman Mysteries - very gripping according to dd!

Thanks. It's getting her to read them that's the problem! Will get her the first Alex Rider book then and see how she gets on. Seen that there's a Roman Mysteries DVD, will get her than to entice her first! That was the draw into HP.

She should try the Charlie Bone series by Jenny Nimmo ? DD discovered these last year (ages 10) and read all 7 of them in a few months. Bit like HP but an easier read and (whisper it) better written too?

Thanks. I've added the first one to DD's wishlist.
