My ten year old son hates reading, he read all three of the 'wimpy kid' books over the summer, but isnt interested in anything else, Can you recomend any other books to get him to enjoy reading again... Thanks!

Another vote for the Jimmy Coates books by Joe Craig - I've only ever read them standing in bookshops but they sound really engaging. Also the Robert Muchamore "Cherub" and "Henderson's Boys" series.

Thanks Timba - I'll check them out.

My 10 year old loves the Darren Shan books (the novels and also the manga adaptations) and the Skullduggery Pleasant books.

He also really enjoys the Beast Quest books (which are a bit easy for him, but he loves them).

DS was very reluctant to read books himself when he was younger, mostly I think because he didn't like the kind of stories he was able to read. So I used to let him listen to audiobooks and he loved it. Once he started being able to read the sorts of books he liked as audiobooks, he started reading loads on his own.

Another idea for reluctant readers is to let them read graphic novels or manga. They're often quite appealing because there isn't much in the way of text, but it encourages them to read.

Could be a bit young, but Jeremy Strong always seems popular in DD's class.
My brothers bottom is a favourite.

Jiggy Macue stories by Michael Lawrence are really funny and perfect for reluctant reader boys (and girls- my DD has read them all too).

The Killer underpants, The Snottle, The toilet of doom,Nudie Dudie- there are quite a few.

Calvin and Hobbes, all my kids are addicted; you can get the anthologies from ic public libraries. And just take him to the library, full stop. He will find books that interest him.

My DBro (11yo) is always struggling to find things he likes to read but last year he devoured the whole lemony snickett series in a matter of weeks.
