'Having a baby' book for DS 3yrs

I'm preggers with no.2 DC and want to find a really good book (or two) for my DS, who's just turned 3. He's very excited and fascinated both by the 'baby in Mammy's tummy' and what you have to do when you're a big brother (currently he's narrowed this down to helping the baby to not be fightened of dinosaurs, and telling them about biscuits).

He LOVES being read to and so can cope with something which is fairly detailed (I've just read Winnie the Pooh to him for example). Shorter picture heavy stuff is good too. In particular I'd really like something which details pregnancy a bit so that he can see what's going on etc.

I'd be really grateful for any recommendations. Thanks everyone! Smile

We had and loved "There's a House Inside My Mummy" by Giles Andreae - AKA Purple Ronnie to give you an idea of the text. It was fun to read and DS (aged 2.9 by the time DD was born) loved it.

It talks about baby being inside Mummys tummy and about mummy eating strange things and feeling tired and poorly. It also talks about how the little boy in the story is looking forward to sharing his toys with the new arrival. I can still recite chunks of it from memory cause we read it so often :)

Ours has been lent to 2 friends who were expecting second children and has been a hit with both families.

I was just about to recommend "THere's a HOuse inside my Mummy" too! Was good because even though the older sibling is a boy, he actually looked a bit like dd, and I changed it where appropriate to her.

My DD1 3.5 when DD2 was born - purchased this book Where Do Babies Come From when at about 7 months gone and after a long pause during a shared bath she asked "so how does the baby get out of your tummy?" I think she'd checked me over for obvious zips & was truly stumped. We used this book & "down a stretchy tunnel between mummy's legs" which seemed to satify. Lots of accurate but not gruesome diagrams & sticks largely to the pregnancy & birth - only 1 page on how the baby got in there & she wasn't interested in that one.

Sophie and the New Baby is a good one for this age group - acknowledges the worries and fears as well as the excitement and is ultimately uplifting and positive

Little Monster Did It! is also in a similar vein - it starts with the new baby coming home so not so much about the pregnancy/waiting side

I'll repeat what I always do on threads like this!

This book, with its follow up here. These two are lovely, no words just illustrations for you to talk about. The older child is unisex, as is the baby. Positive images of breastfeeding too.
