DD is nagging to read my copy of the afore mentioned book and I have said no so far as I have had it since I was a kid and I don't trust her not to spoil it. I am also unsure of the right age for it. She can read anything but I want her to understand and enjoy it as well.

Charity shops in posher areas are a good source of traditional literature at under £1
I stock my class library every year from them, over the summer.

I have heard there are groups of people who have vicious arguments heated debates about the correct order to read the books i.e. publication order or chronological.

Personally I am in the camp that says start with TLTWATW otherwise you spoil some of the plot - however I don't care enough to call anyone out for a fight over it

I though The Last Battle was pretty grim - really didn't like it much TBH. IIRC Susan is damned not to enjoy the after life because she decided to wear lipstick. It is a while since I read it so maybe I am hazy on the details here.

The best EB book I read at that sort of age was "The island of adventure". (It saved me from endless boredom on a rainy caravan holiday...)

coventgarden, does your Chronicles of C S Lewis really have Alice in Wonderland in it???

coventgarden · 27/07/2010 18:53

Yes.

well it's obviously not "Chronicles of CS Lewis" then, is it?! CS Lewis wrote "The Chronicles of Narnia", Lewis Carroll wrote Alice in Wonderland - lots of Lewises, easy to get confused, but probably not if you're a publisher

OOps

Lewis Carroll is who I meant .
