I absolutely love my nephews to pieces but when I give them back I always really appreciate that I can just go to a shop without having to load them in and out of a car, and that I can make spontaneous plans.

The freedom to do what I want. Better finances. And less stress in my life.

Out of interest, is there anything you miss about your life before children, outside the sphere of generally being younger?

Yes! I probably miss everything that people have mentioned on this thread so far - I miss being able to have more time to myself, I miss not being responsible for others, I miss the freedom and the fun work drinks/trips and having a more carefree relationship with DH... and sleep!

Before I had kids I was definitely happy - but now I look at my life with them and feel so happy/balanced, that I prefer it out of the two.

That doesn't mean I don't miss all these things though - not sure if my answer makes sense. On balance having kids has given me more than it's taken, but I still miss some parts of my pre kid life!

Oh god it’s hard to pin down just one…
sleep
freedom
make choices just for grown ups
peace
money
freedom
holidays doing what we like
clean house
eat what and when I want without having to worry about someone not liking it
I worry hugely about my nieces but am aware it’s in no way the same

Peace. Absence of noise. The shrieks and screams are unbearable.
Freedom to live my life. Parenting looks like slavery to me, especially if only the mum is doing it.
Having much more money!

I'm a parent, but I miss being able to go on holiday to wherever I like and at any time of year. DP and I often used to go away in June or September when places were much cheaper and quieter. No one followed us around whinging that they were bored, thirsty or needed the toilet, and I could look at what I wanted without one of the DC trying to drag me somewhere else. "Mummy, come and look at this! Mummy! MUMMY!"
