Does your husband/boyfriend nap a lot?

Or yourself for that matter? Just curious really. When my DH has a day off from work he'll normally get up late then spend a good few hours napping during the afternoon. We got together in our 20s and it didn't seem that unusual back then, as the guys I'd house shared with or dated previously would party on a weekend, so disco naps made sense. DH very rarely drinks or goes out these days, yet still seems to be in the habit of regular and extended napping in his 40s. He doesn't seem concerned by his need for naps, but I am wondering if it's a sign that he's ill in some way, or is this just something lots of kid free adults do because they can?

Nodding off over the TV in the evening is a thing in my household but not daytime naps- neither of us sleeps in the day unless we're ill. Does he sleep badly at night?

CleanShirt · 11/09/2024 17:08

I don't have a husband or a boyfriend, but I nap a lot 😂

BigFatLiar · 11/09/2024 17:09

How old is he?

We both nap but we're retired. For some it may be illness for others just lack of something to do. OH has been ill for years and has poor sleep patterns (2 hrs is a long sleep for him now) so is often tired during the day.

Missingpotatocroquettes · 11/09/2024 17:14

We both take midday naps together on occasion! We both sleep fine at night but I'm pregnant and he has a very physically demanding job so that might contribute.

Gibbertyflibberts · 11/09/2024 17:29

He's 43, has always been a bit of a night owl and normally comes to bed later than me (but says it's before 2am). He says he sleeps poorly, but I can't help but think that's partly because he's staying up until the early hours. He's probably been awake for 3 hours today (if that). It's not a problem in that we don't have plans, it just seems a bit excessive. If I were needing to nap that much I'd be worried there was something wrong, but he's had blood tests recently which came back ok and he doesn't feel or seem depressed.

He's 43 and the most fun thing he does on his day off is sleep? If he's not ill than being awake for 3 hours is well weird. Does he have tortoise genes? Does he need to hibernate? Seriously, no one well needs to sleep that much

Fastback · 11/09/2024 21:23

He’s awake all fucking night, that’s why he’s asleep all fucking day. I couldn’t be arsed with this.

MaidOfAle · 11/09/2024 22:44

DCat and I both like daytime naps. We are both child-free.

Sparklesandbeer · 12/09/2024 18:03

I attempted policy change at work to designate 30 min after lunch time for a nap....
Naps are life

SnowBeagle · 12/09/2024 18:41

I think the drive to daytime nap is (at least partly) genetic. I nap a lot. Always have, always will. It makes my life more joyful.

MoreCardassianThanKardashian · 12/09/2024 19:08

If I don't go to bed at 9pm ish, I'll need a nap the next day. Sometimes on a Sunday, I'll have two naps. If I was napping any day other than Sunday on a regular basis then I'd see a doctor. 37 for reference.

MumOfThreeChaos · 12/09/2024 19:49

Does he snore? My husband was napping all the time and it was down to sleep apnoea. I would get him to speak to the doctor to be sure what's going on. Similarly my husband is always up past midnight and cannot be persuaded to bed early, but bad quality sleep ultimately caused the napping. Fixed with a CPAP.

Gibbertyflibberts · 12/09/2024 21:57

I've never really noticed him snore, but have wondered if it's some sort of sleep disorder. I wake a few times in the night and he always seems fast asleep, but he complains he doesn't sleep very well. I think he has been to the doctors a few times over the years, but they just suggest the obvious stuff to promote good sleep hygiene. We do run a business where we work evenings, so a couple of times a week we finish at 10pm, so it's not always easy to go to bed early.

See, that's how prople are different. I don't know what time you wake up but if I went to bed at 9, I would wake up 4AM! I sleep 12-7.

I have a nap any day if I have time, it's not a medical issue unless extreme. Healthy and your age about. Usually up to 30 min but it has happened that after shitty stressful week at work I ended up with 3 hour "what year is it" naps on a weekend. The quality of my naps aa well as sleep depends on stress levels.

Overall Iirc short naps a good, long ones for hours not good based on studies.

I just noted the time I posted, but I am abroad currently hence pre 5am posting in uk time😂

That’s pretty much exactly what time I wake up 😂

I don’t think 12-7 is enough sleep though. If I did that, I’d be napping all over the place!

Bit 9-4 is the same 😁 7 hours

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 13/09/2024 17:07

I'm a napper. I have a nap almost every day.

It’s 4.30 which is either much better or really affecting my maths skills. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Sparklesandbeer · 13/09/2024 18:39

21:00-04:30 - 21:00-00:00 =3 +00:01 - 04:30= 7.5 hours
00:00-07:06 - 7:00 bar the 6 minutes.
😁
One of us needa more naps. As in if you are wrong you do, if I am I do😁

CrunchyCarrot · 13/09/2024 20:27

Nope my DP is a workaholic! I on the other hand do nap in the afternoon but then I have hypothyroidism so I am permanently tired.

PoachesPeaches · 21/09/2024 18:29

He naps because he is tired. He is tired because he does not get enough sleep. Vicious cycle. If he skips the nap he will go to be earlier.

There's something called sleep pressure, it builds up the longer you are awake. If you nap you reset the sleep pressure chemical.

Really good book called Why We Sleep covers this.

user47 · 21/09/2024 18:39

I can't be arsed with this shit, naps are for under 4s and over 70s.
