..and do you think being childfree has any impact on your reasons?

I love summer but find so many places full of children 😩
The older I get the more I'm starting to enjoy autumn and winter

Autumn has always been my favourite! Cool weather, rain, cozy days in, crisp mornings - just everything about it is amazing.

The school holidays are definitely a trying time 😂 I have no DC currently, so sometimes I do forget how wild it can be when kids are around!

I used to feel quite depressed in autumn but I'm actually excited for it this year.
I do enjoy dark, cosy evenings!

I used to be all about summer, now I definitely appreciate autumn and winter more than I used to. I love a cosy evening in, but I hate commuting home in the dark. Hybrid working has been brilliant as now it’s only 2 days a week driving home in the pitch black rather than 5. So now a big negative about the winter months has been reduced, I see the positive sides a lot more.

Forgot to add that no, I don’t think it’s down to being child-free. My friends with children have such stress around finding and paying for childcare that none of them seem to have huge love for the summer holidays.

Late spring and early summer - May to mid-July. I usually take my fortnight's holiday during that period, to avoid the higher prices and crowds during school holidays.

Least favourite is mid-winter, December and January. I'm no huge fan of Christmas, as the years go on I find it more and more depressing.

I suppose if I had children, the markers in my year would be different - school holidays, their birthdays and so on, so my moods at various times might not be as they are now. As it is, the markers in mine haven't changed since I left education and started work about 30 years ago.

I like early summer and early autumn best - mainly to do with the weather, although I do appreciate both being quieter.

I find school holidays horrendous. Everywhere seems to have special events on, so it’s difficult to find anywhere to go for a quiet walk / sit in a nice garden. I particularly miss being able to do that as I have no outdoor space.

I don't feel like we have seasons any longer or at least not the defined ones like when I was a child .
I like all ' seasons ' though
Spring for the promise of warmer days and the garden coming to life
Summer for getting all my dresses and summer clothes ready and a much busier social life . I also love long lazy days at home pottering with my dogs and relax with a book .
Autumn for the colours and crunchy leaves on the floor
Winter for wrapping up warm , blustery atmospheric walks on the beach and I love looking forward to all the festive outings and Xmas .

I like it all really well except really strong winds as I'm surrounded by trees so hate storms

Late spring and early autumn. But I can find something to like about all of them.

QuirkyEagle · 14/08/2024 15:52

My favourite is late winter/very early spring - as soon as Christmas is over really, as I find it emotionally difficult for lots of reasons. I love knowing that it's behind me and then seeing all the flowers come out in turn - winter jasmine, then mahonia, forsythia, snowdrops, crocuses, celandines, daffodils, lilac, hellebore and the promise of more to come.

Autumn definitely. But my favourite month has always been September. Kids back at school. Cornwall - where we have a second home (sorry sorry sorry it was left to my partner in his grandmothers will) and we go there for the whole month now thst we've both cut back on work. I love the light of sept, the sun and the sunsets and watching the first leaves turn. Perfect month. Perfect season.

From late autumn to early spring.
I love winter time always have.
I love rough nights wind and rain.
Frost fog storms thunder lightning all the weather mumsnet hates i love it.

Cant stand summer.

piccolorhinoceros · 15/08/2024 18:04

I used to like autumn, but I feel like life is just one eternal drizzly cool grey day now where I live, so autumn has lost its appeal. Spring/early summer is probably my favourite, but that's mainly because I usually take a holiday abroad round about then. But also because of the lighter nights/longer days. Hard to say if being childfree impacts that really, I think I'd probably feel the same if I had kids, dark mornings are awful and could only be worse if I had a school drop-off to worry about.

Schools go back this week where I am... Woohoo! No more kids running about the streets at 10pm screaming (hopefully, anyway).

Autumn - sunglasses and scarves weather!

ForGreyKoala · 17/08/2024 07:45

Autumn is my favourite season, but I'm not in the UK and our autumns are warm and sunny. Summer would be next.

Catsmere · 17/08/2024 23:39

Autumn and winter for me. Always have been, I loathe Australian summers. Children or their absence don't really affect that. I don't go to places that particularly attract children these days, so don't have to plan to avoid them like in the days when I'd spend days in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens.
