Childfree or child-minimised activities in London during half term

I'm going to the theatre in central London on the last Friday of half-term week. I'm staying over so would like to do something on the Saturday before I go home. Any suggestions for quirky or out-of-the way grown-up museums or exhibitions which won't be overrun with young families?

What are you interested in? Temporary exhibitions you pay for will always have fewer families than the free permanent ones. See if anything grabs you at either of the Tates if you are interested in art? Yoko Ono at Tate Modern is brilliant. I haven't seen the Expressionists exhibition yet. I love Linley Sambourne House (preserved Victorian house on aesthetic principles, open to the public) in Kensington, though I have a feeling they do costumed tours on Saturdays, which might mean more families...? The John Soane museum? Or Highgate cemetery?

I was going to say Sir John Soane’s museum too - fascinating and extremely unlikely to be full of kids.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have looked at the temporary exhibitions in all the main galleries/museums but there's nothing on at the moment which I want to see. I quite fancy Kensington Palace but they won't store bags and I will have a small case with me. I might go for the Sir John Soanes museum.

The Hunterian museum is fascinating and not massively child friendly.

Soane’s has a small cloakroom but the space is pretty limited, so the case would be a problem there too. They give you a clear plastic bag at the entrance, and anything you want to keep with you has to fit inside.

If you could drop the case in left luggage at the station you’re going home first thing, that might widen your options?
