Which city would you ideally move to?

Me and DH are currently looking after a raft of older people and it does get you thinking!

We will need to move from our unsuitable house in a very small town with poor healthcare options and we think we'd probably want to move to a quiet area in a bigger city?

Flexible on budget, depending on how the cookie crumbles, possibly a pretty good one. Probably not London, more north than south, so Liverpool, Carlisle, Newcastle, Edinburgh? Belfast?

No DC, not much family, some healthcare issues, so want to futureproof at some point. Have other friends now trying to move in their 80's and having seen PiL making a right hash of retirement location, want to consider this earlier rather than later. Do work (a bit) but not location dependent.

Open to suggestions.

Would consider going abroad somewhere but that's obv more complicated.

Sheffield! Easy access to Peak District, friendly people.
Or Maybe Norwich - nice small city, or Exeter- proximity to nice beaches.

Which beach is within an hour of Sheffield? At normal driving speeds?

Oxford or London

I agree with a friend of mine. Her partner asked if now she was retired she wanted to move from London. Like me she relies on public transport so she said no because where she is now there are 4 hospitals, a great public transport system (normally), great theatres and cinema, great markets etc etc.

I feel exactly the same and most of my friends are living near me in London.

Just move a sandy beach to London and I would be very happy! I forgot abot the lovel parks we have too!

Northern Ireland is great but still have their stupid Catholic/Protestant bullshit.

Thanks for this penetrating insight into a deeply complex issue. 🙄

If you're looking at NI, Bangor/ Donaghadee might fit the bill. Excellent modern leisure centre (50m pool) and access to the sea for sea swimming and paddle boarding. Very dog friendly bars and cafes. About 30mins from Belfast and 20 min to city airport.

Shrewsbury is lovely and Chester has the benefits of being near Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales. I love Manchester but the outskirts are increasingly expensive to buy.

Ah, I didn't realise there were lots more helpful suggestions.

I have a bit too much experience of the health service in Shrewsbury/Telford to go there. Tho the stroke ward is very good, getting into it takes time.

Thanks for the NI suggestion, 50m pool, lovely!

Chester/Liverpool is a definite thought tho for the reasons outlined. Thanks all.
