Just to mention first this in on the childfree board before I get accused of being smug or whatever

I'm childfree not by choice and always had that melancholy around this time of year, I've always had that 'this time next year I'll have my baby' daydream too but this has lessened this year.

I'm just enjoying a chilled few days off. No stress, just nice food, crap tv and exchanging gifts with family. Have caught up with friends, got my hair done and looking forward to a lie in tomorrow.

People seem to look shocked when I say 'yeah' when they ask if I'm ready for Christmas. Guess you're supposed to be stressed out, crying on the kitchen floor whilst your husband disappears to the pub and kids behave like ungrateful horrors. The threads on the other boards are an eye-opener.

I might feel differently tomorrow, I may have that longing for chaos, noise and mess but for now all is OK.

I hope everyone has a decent Christmas x

Happy Christmas to you all

DH, me and 2 dogs here. Been for our walk now watching films and reading. Had a picky lunch and we are having Chinese for dinner. 2 dogs are snoozing and I will join them for a nap soon.

We enjoy it just us two. We will catch up with family later in the week.

Hope everyone has a peaceful day 🎅

I like the choice/circumstance definition as I’m in that category too although unsure of my percentages.

It’s just DP and I today, his son doesn’t spend Christmas with us (and I think is unlikely to in the future) so that gives us a lovely relaxed day with no expectations of anything running to a schedule. As a result, I’ve just had a shower and am sitting in my dressing gown, contemplating getting dressed to go for a walk - although the sofa and the cats might make a more appealing demand for my time.

Tomorrow is a different matter however, and there will be expectations which I will be very glad when they have been delivered and everyone has left the building! I am an antisocial so-and-so if left to my own devices 😊

Happy Christmas to everyone, and I hope 2024 is happy, healthy and prosperous for us all 🥂

I describe myself as 70% child free by choice, 30% by circumstance.

I like this. I had chemo when much younger and that made me infertile, but I'd already mostly decided I didn't want kids anyway. I suppose the only thing that gets me now and again is that it took away my choice if I had changed my mind.

@musixa good luck! There js nothing worse than trying to get someone else's oven to work. Personally I'd join the rest of the family in the pub and leave them to sort dinner out....but you are a better person than me 🤣

Another 70/30-er here (for now at least).

I celebrated Christmas with DM/F/Bs earlier in the week and now it’s me, DP and the cat until New Years.

Bacon sandwiches, oodles of coffee and a nice walk earlier. I actually took some time to pamper myself and put make up on for the first time in ages - I miss making an effort, must try harder next year.

Presents, biscuits and all round coziness this afternoon. Roast dinner prep will commence in a minute.

I cooked myself delicious American style bbq ribs with three different sides for lunch today.

I love being single and childfree at Christmas.

I had a lovely lunch & then a nap with the kittens. Currently drinking wine while thinking about tea & what film to watch this evening.

Hope you're all having a lovely day. You don't sound smug but fyi those posting about the dick husbands and kids are in the minority. Lots of us with families are happy too, as are you :-)

musixa · 25/12/2023 20:46

Everything worked out in the end. Apparently the top oven 'doesn't work very well' but I managed to winkle everything into the bottom one. With 8 people it's the first time I can remember not having any leftovers - absolutely everything was polished off!

Afterwards, a long chill drinking wine and chatting/watching television and just got home feeling pleasantly mellow!

Merry Christmas everyone, have loved reading your posts almost as much as I've loved the ruined Christmas angst ones ;)

Child free by choice here. No partner so just me & the dog. Lovely chilled day. I had some invites but one was to a very busy house & the other just a bit too far to want to get in the car on Christmas Day. Lots of friends spread around so caught up at various points during the day. Dog wanted to go out very early so maybe a bit too much food for him - no issues though we will cut back today.
