Baby photos

I'm not a child hater, I just didn't want them and prefer not to be around them if I can help it. There are young children in my friends group and they are lovely and I have a family members child as often as I can help but why do people keep showing me photos of their kids!

All of these people know i'm not a lover of children, but will insist on showing me photos of their grand babies, or their kids. I find it really boring, a baby in a pram, a baby in a hat, a baby sleeping.

I understand that to them they are wonderful but why would you show photos to someone you know really isn't interested?

Does anyone else get this and how do I politely disengage from this? One colleague showed me 12 photos of his grandkids!

Even worse than photos is second-hand accounts of cute things babies/small children did. I find they can all be filled under “you really had to be there”.

To be 100% honest I find most people's family and friends photographs boring. I like looking at photos of wildlife, pets, landscapes or 'art' type photography but not snaps of someone's holiday/wedding/new baby/party etc.

I feign mild interest to avoid offence but could quite happily never see another one.

Holiday photos are interesting when they’re of the place, so you can decide whether you’d like to go there. “This is one of Jim and Barbara, who were such a scream at karaoke”, not so much.

I must have successfully nailed my childfree-and-don't-care-for-children-or-babies colours to the mast among my current acquaintances - nobody tries to show me baby photos, but we do show pet photos!

I think it's nice to show an interest in what makes your friends happy .
There was a thread I was on recently where a poster said she would buy her friends cat a b'day card not because she really liked the cat but the cat made her friend happy and that was important to the friend to take an interest .

That's sweet!

Though I'd have been very surprised if even any of my cat-loving friends in times past had bought my cats birthday cards. 😄

@Catsmere It is sweet isn't it and I thought what a wonderful friend to have around . I hope her friends are just as thoughtful .

It’s best when they appear on Teams calls. If it’s a child I sit quietly and wait for it to be removed. If it’s a pet I start waving and shouting hello like a loon and am entirely happy for the whole meeting to be derailed.

Ha! You are me! X
