Wholesome Weekend Activities?

JorisBonson · 13/07/2023 10:59

Trying to move away from boozy weekends to save a bit of money and lose a few pounds.

Any adult focused ideas that don't cost a fortune? (Mortgage has just gone up 🫤).

DH and I are off on a 12k walk on Saturday and have 2 free cinema tickets to use too.

Any solo ideas appreciated too as DH works some weekends and with all the train strikes getting to a pals is hard!

What do you enjoy?

Off the top of my head, museums, classes eg a place near me runs various one off classes like learning to cook a curry or learning how to mix two or three different cocktails (for solo maybe an online course, the open university do hundreds of free ones), puzzles/games, podcasts and that’s all I can think of for now!

We hike, walk the dog, run, go road cycling and mountain biking.
We fix up the house and garden.
We cook.
We play boardgames.
DH has perfected cinema-style popcorn at home, so we eat that and watch a film.
I also do some crafting on and off - I needlefelt and make my own aromatherapy cleaning products.
And we love a breakfast date, more so than dinner.

Spend some time cooking a lovely lazy brunch and take your time enjoying it and chatting.
Play card games or PS5/switch
Go to local markets/nearby areas for a look
Put your favourite album on or spend some time reading alone but together

I have a shift-working DH (who also plays golf and cricket...) so spend a lot of weekends enjoying my own company. We have a dog so every day off is started with a walk in the hills. Before the dog (and DH) I'd do a couple of classes at the gym every Saturday morning then make a nice lunch. I know a gym membership is money, but for about £30 a month (some are less) you always have something to do, somewhere to go, and people to see.

Lazy days I like reading, Netflix, podcasts while I clean the house. I also like cooking more elaborate meals on days off, trying out new recipes. Do you have a garden? You could try to grow something, maybe get a veg patch. I don't struggle to fill my days off tbh, they fly by!

DH and I enjoy wandering round English Heritage sites - we're members but there are many free ones.

I like a lot of these! I do have a garden but am whatever the opposite of green fingered is.

We call that black fingers in my family! (Don't think it's original though.) 😄

Do you like art, craft, etc? Or have low-cost interests you could do in groups or just at home? I'm hoping wholesome weekend coming up will feature knitting, preferably with a cat on my lap (at least if they forgive me for sitting in the lounge rather than on the bed where I'm supposed to be according to ancient tradition).

Me too Sad. I just can't seem to keep plants alive (other than weeds!).
