I have just been reading the who is going to look after you in old age thread . This is the childfree board so in my mind general concern from those who have no children and what alternatives people are thinking of . Yet we have loads of people with children answering ? Whether they care or not to varying degrees is not the same as someone totally alone for whom there is no younger generation to step up . Old age could bring fears about who will manage their affairs aswell as caring duties . I'm much more interested in the childfree and what their thoughts , fears and concerns are .

@keyboardkat If you are frightened of falling and nobody knowing, you can get an Apple watch (if you also have an iPhone) and there's a fall alert thing on there. A few people I know have them and say they are great. My friend's husband fell at work when nobody was around. She got the alert and was able to call his manager. Do you have a friend who you could link to?

Why do you not want it in active? You can hide it if you don’t want to see

I am childfree but on few threads people mentioned it shows on active so some parents then answer or are baffled by topic

My nan moved into sheltered housing when she retired and the number of residents whose children "looked after" them in any meaningful way was tiny. The majority didn't even get one visit a month. From what I've heard from people who work in care homes, it's the same everywhere.

Hell, my nan had eight kids and countless grandkids and my mum and I were the only ones who did anything for her.

Has anyone asked on site stuff for it to not be shown? I am happy to if not.

Nobody has but it's been suggested a lot. Go for it, but beware your thread will be hijacked by posters whining about the very existence of this board.

Thank you. I'm looking at them now and am going to invest in one for sure! Great idea.

I'm only 36 so this isn't really on my radar as of yet.

I imagine I'll stay in my home as long as possible and then, if needed, I'll head on over to a care home or sheltered accommodation. No doubt I'll be living adjacent to people who had kids.

It's not something I'm overly worried about (that may change) but I'd never have kids for the express purpose of providing care to me in my old age.
