For some reason this has reminded me of when I was browsing through older men’s OLD profiles out of curiosity when men in my age bracket had run out. The amount of 48+ men who say they want children is mind-blowing.

It's like those of us not interested in motherhood or settling down is locked at as an alien species. It's so tiresome though revealing.

I'll be over here at 46 with no panic about men or kids and enjoying my wine.

Anxietysucks87 · 29/06/2023 10:07

What a load of twaddle!

I am 36, married and childfree by choice, I don't drink much and don't have a particularly good career so don't fall into any of the usual stereotypes for a childfree person.
Most of my friends with children drink a lot more than I do!

I knew your thread would be about this appalling article. It's quite bonkers, as well as being dreadful.

(Sorry for intruding onto your board.)

They don't. They want a younger woman and think she will want kids so put that in to make them sound more appealing.

Exactly. Yuck.

That's interesting. Till now, I hadn't had a boyfriend for ages but they seemed to want children.

i'm now dating a man less than half my age - hopefully childfree folk will be more open minded about it - and while I don't see what's in it for him, the fact that I can be accepted by society as "really didn't want children" and no one can say "it's not too late" is probably a factor.

I do think the attitude might be changing in wider society. I've had comments like "you made the right choice, not getting married and having kids".

Actually, come to think of it, one of my much-older-than-me exes (big mistake) wanted children and put a lot of pressure on me to have them.

I had a small glass of rosé wine with my dinner last night. I am a post-menopausal, childfree widow. Am I drinking like this because I know I will now never have children?

Yes. You might want to seek help. Maybe adopt a child? It'll cure your thirst.

In all seriousness, I do worry sometimes that over the course of my lifetime I’ve drunk more than most women because I’ve never been forced to stop by pregnancy and having small children. Obviously it would be within my gift to do something about this and I choose not to.

I think I've probably drunk more in a weekend than one of my great aunts did in her life (I say one DGA because another one was notoriously fond of her G&Ts).

Yolo12345 · 29/06/2023 23:41

Which is ironic because if you have kids then they drive you to drink!
