not me personally but my neighbour.

baby is in hospital for next 6-7 weks and they have DC age 4 & 3 both at school in the mornings.

I did offer to take the youngest to school as my DS goes there too, but they have gradually started to take advantage and drop him off at 8.10am instead of 8.50am with no notice and as walking down path say oh can you pick him up as we maybe late and we'll be in touch. Then dont call and I'm left as the unpaid childcare not knowing when he'll be collected.

I have a 3.5 year old and 9 mth old of my own so I am stranded at home as no car seat and just a single buggy for my baby

I'm in London and pay £6 an hour (includes food and nappies)

CarGirl · 07/07/2010 12:13

In Surrey £6-£8 ph per child

Tell em that it breaking the law (which it would be if you were to take money for caring for them).

Or just practise saying no you can't do it.

Hopandpop · 07/07/2010 13:53

in east midlands i charge 3 pounds an hour

devonsmummy · 08/07/2010 09:40

thanks for your replies

it seems they maybe as well to pay £10 to keep him at preschool for the 3 hr afternoon session.

I wasnt planning on them paying me, just wanted to know what they were saving by dumping him on me!

In Surrey, £5ph per child, I supply food nappies and pay playgroups and any fees for outings that cost. at £6-8 in surrey!!

MUM2BLESS · 08/07/2010 13:27

Have you got a contract with them, even if short term. If necessary to ensure that they stick to the times on the contract. If they come later or earlier you can charge extra.

I charge £4.00/£4.50 per hour (herts)

StarExpat · 08/07/2010 13:44

Is there a way you can say to them that it's too much for you? Or do you know of someone else who could do it or maybe you can tell them about the £10 to keep him at preschool?

6-8 weeks in hospital sounds awful, perhaps they must be so stressed about their poorly baby that they aren't minding their manners and come across as taking advantage?
I don't know the situation, though - so they very well could be taking the mick.

looneytune · 08/07/2010 13:51

Are they dropping both their kids with you? If so, if you were a childminder you'd only be allowed these ages with a variation from Ofsted as the standard is 3 under 5 year olds at one time. I'm only saying this to show that they ARE expecting too much! I do feel for them but I also feel they are totally taking the mick!!
