Going rate for nanny?

Hi all
We are planning to re-employ our "old" nanny for our second child, and just wondered what you thought might be a reasonable salary. When we first employed her in 2006 it was as a mother's help as she had little practical childcare experience. She worked with us for 2.5 yrs until DS1 went to preschool aged 3. Since she left us she has done other work (not childcare related) so has not added any more relevant qualifications or experience to her CV. She has just agreed to come back to us for DS2 (yay!)

With DS1 she worked 3 full days (25.5 hours). This would be going up to 30 hrs (5 days 9-3) for DS2. It's a live-out position, in Hampshire.

Of course I can look back at what we paid her before and just add a bit, but I'm interested in what you think might be an appropriate wage in these circs.

Thx

Going rate here (Herts) is £8 per hour.

Hard to say really... probably starting the range at £6 gross per hour - as that is a bit above NMW. Top of the range could be anything... if she asked for £8 gross an hour would you pay that? What about £9 gross, £10 gross... there will be a point that you won't feel it's worth paying the amount.
I'd say £6-£8 gross an hour would probably be a reasonable range but you may find she wants more than that and/or you may feel she's worth paying more.

£7-£8 an hour is probably about what a nanny with 2 years experience would get here too.
