When mindee's arrive at 8.30am

Should they be......
A. Dressed
B. Fed
C. sun tan lotion on if warm day
D. Medication given if neccessary
E. All of the above?

My preference is E. and I've told all of the parents this many times but it doesn't sink in. When mindee's arrive without having those things done it means I am late for my daughters school/ nursery run.

How would you handle it?

aaargh

E is my default position but I would not hold the school run to dress a child, feed them or put on suncream; all of that can be done after you return to your setting

wrt the medication - that's one I WOULD make time to do; of course if it's the very first dose of a course or a new med then the parents MUST give it

Letter to parents, with copy of relevant policies attached?

The bottom line is, if they don't comply with your policies and procedures you can give notice get rid

My opinion as a parent.

A. Dressed
Definitely.
B. Fed
This would depend on when she was dropped off, when I was working and dropped her off at 7.30 she would eat there, but when I was off work and dropped her off later I would feed her. This is mainly because she takes ages to eat.
C. sun tan lotion on if warm day
I never put sun tan lotion on her, the childminder would put it on when needed.
D. Medication given if necessary
I would always give her the first dose of the day.

I should have said it's very rare I come home after the school run, I drop my dd's off then go on to toddler group or wherever and come back in time for lunch and naps.

I totally sympathise and have just posted a thread about a Mum I just cant work with any more..

tbh I feel almost like packing the business in and moving on but then I have some other parents who are lovely and NORMAL... its so amazing how many parents just arnt...total nut cases..

BoysAreLikeDogs · 25/06/2010 14:01

ah in that case then the parents are well versed in your routine so YANBU

(I know you are not asking )

leeloo1 · 25/06/2010 14:05

A. Dressed
Yes
B. Fed
Depends on what's been agreed and when they're dropped off. I usually give everyone breakfast at 8.30 - I wouldn't expect to have to do extra meals for anyone later... but if child was dropped off unfed and I had to leave then they'd get a slice of toast (or similar) to eat in the buggy on the way to wherever we were going.
C. sun tan lotion on if warm day
Would be nice but no-one ever seems to...
D. Medication given if neccessary
Yes
E. All of the above?
If only!

Um. I'm going to buck the trend and say None of the Above.

Please don't shoot me

I can absolutely understand where you're all coming from but

I've told my parents that, if they are having a bad morning and Little Madam or Master is playing up (usually the terrible twos age-group), they are not to waste time, energy or emotion - just bring them and I'll sort them out!!!

Strangely enough, they turn into little lambs as soon as they're through my front door and let me wash, dress and brush them into civilisation without a murmur

It all depends on their arrival times and what then happens in the minders routine.

In my case, my mindees that arrive at 8.00am have not had breakfast. The 9.00am arrivals will come here having had their breakfast.

All children arrive dressed unless there has been some kind of calamity at home in which case, I am more that happy to help. I think I have only had a child arrive in its PJs on two occasions in the past couple of years.

I would not want mindees arriving plastered in sun cream - we will not be going out as soon as they arrive as I do not do any school runs so we may not be going out for an hour or so depending on the days plan and I wouldn't want them rubbing all their cream off on my furniture only to need it re-applied an hour later. My toddler groups are in the afternoons and the Sure Start sessions that I go to don't start until 10.30. Obviously, if I was doing school runs, it would be whole different set up.
