CM - Nursery pick up at 4pm

The nursery that I want my DD to go to, from January is right next to a school, but only has an afternoon space avaliable. Which is 1-4pm. They have said she might be able to move to mornings next september, but thats a long time away. In the mean time, I wanted to start CMing from this September, at the school next door. The school is about a 15 min walk from my house with children. So not really enough time to go out in between but too long to wait outside.

What would you do? My choices I think really are either to send DD to a different nursery, which isn't really what I want for her. Or not to CM after school, which I can't really afford as I have 2 toddlers of my own so that would leave only one space!

up to you but our pre-school will allow early pick ups so you could pick up at 3.30 but will have to pay till 4

you may only get after school children for 2 or 3 nights so you really cant make a call till you know if you have any after school children

i would deal with your own dd first get her in and started at pre-school

I agree with dmo nurseries are supposed to offer flexibility. Try for an earlier pick up and work around your DD. In the meantime keep badgering the nursery for a morning session. (nicely of course)

Is there a park nearby? DD2 goes to the park with her CM most days between nursery pick-up and school pick-up.

mine does the park thing too. or did rather, shes older now.

There will prob be other parents/ CMs waiting about to as they'll have siblings. There'll prob be a gang of you.

I think there could well be other parents in the same situation, I potentially could be as well as one of my mindies is due to start there in January as well, however as I'm accredited might end up doing her early years to start. If necessary I would wait around at the CC as they do have playthings in the foyer there which the children can play with & if you are picking up from the juniors they are often not out until 3.25 or 4.30 although they are due to finish at 3.20 . The problem would be really if you end up collecting from reception class that finishes at 3.10, infants at 3.15 & not juniors because it is then a long wait The CC will just have to put up with us being there, my gripe is that it is a long time out for littlies/babies potentially every day & I have parents who collect from me at 4.15 & one who drops off at 4 two days a week.

I had that problem but in the mornings as a CM... had to drop kids off at school at 8.50 and then another kid at nursery for 9.30. was only a hassle as i had terrible morning sickness and felt like i was dying. honest.

find parents to chat to in the afternoon, and just relax and let the kids run round in the playgroud... some days after school i can easily stay and chat for 15-20 mins!
like the others said, i'm sure there will be others like you. Its the childminding business... never as smooth as we would like it.
good luck xo

Thanks. I am not worried about sunny days, more in the winter when the weather is too bad to hang around for 45mins! Will give it a shot anyway!
