It never once occured to me that a 5y/o in full time education was still in the EYFS!! He is 5 but was born in December so actually he's still in the EYFS and I should be doing observations and things on him shouldn't I? I've had him for 3 months!!!!

Also - what do you do with older kids re: daily diaries? I don't believe anyone would try to do a diary for a 7y/o but am I supposed to be doing something else? If so, what? I have absolutely nothing here that he's done in the 3 months he's been here, I always let them take their pictures and craft projects home with them and these are not the sort of boys that will do a diary themselves .....

Oh God please help me, I'm going to get slaughtered by Ofsted in my 1st inspection aren't I??

Have you been taking any pictures in the meantime? Have you noticed what he is interested in?
You can do observations rectospectively (sp?)
Just link to the 6 areas with a photo or just a description.
Daily diaries are usually for under 3yr olds, some CMs do them up to 4yrs old.
Depends on the child.
Don't panic!

EYFS covers the whole of the reception class year, then Year 1 is Key Stage 1.

Don't panic. Although EYFS still applies up to August 31, the idea is that it should be proportionate to the hours of childcare in each setting. So the expectation is that you should have an idea of what they're doing in other settings (ie, covering all of EYFS at school and some EYFS things at home) and supplementing this with whatever you feel is appropriate for that child in the time you have available.

For daily diaries, I have put in my handbook that I will stop these when they start school unless parent requests they continue (thinking of special needs or behaviour - communication issues). I then give them their own diary, so they can write and draw whatever they like if and when they like.

Don't worry about it, get in touch with the school and get them to send their planning to you, go through and link your obs (retrospectively) to it. Jot down some of the childs interests and base the next steps on that.

You won't have masses of obs for f/t schoolies anyway. Ofsted will prob be pleased that you noticed and have sorted it out, its all about learning from experience and showing progression.

Great, thanks for your help so far ladies.

One last question! I have mindees finishing this week, would Ofsted still want to see their Obs files/contracts/details even if they are no longer being minded?

Nope they won't want to look at them, bit sad really after all that effort. The new setting will request them from you or if you wish you can hand over to the parents to pass on. You are not legally required to send them on though unless requested.

Unfortunately they are leaving the country so I wouldn't have anywhere to send them on to , I'm quite gutted actually as they are beautiful kids and the contract end has come up so quickly, I can't believe it's 4 months already .
