Is this illegal?

I have been asked to look after a little boy who is 4 years old. It will be for two days this week and possibly one day the following week.

I would pick him up from nursery at 14:30 and bring him to my home. His step-dad (who currently lives in my home) will be back by 16:30 and will then take the child to his own house.

I am confused because I'm not a registered childminder and the child will be looked after in my home. I will be paid for this.

Is this illegal? Is it only illegal if I am receiving payment or gifts?

I think there's something about LESS than 2 hours a day not requiring registration on the 'registration not required' factsheet here

It's not illegal if you're not being rewarded, which can be money or gifts etc.

This is a one (well, two, maybe three) off, not a regular arrangement? I really wouldn't worry about it, no-one would realistically expect you to go through all the faff of registering for that, but if you'd feel more comfortable could you look after the boy in his own home?

i think if it's regular care, of more than 2 hrs a day, that you need to be registered. not a cm myself, but worked with a lot of them at one point.

Definitely can't look after the boy in his own home (it's complicated).
I had a look at the link and it appears to be that I wouldn't be breaking any rules. I will have the child for a maximum of 2 hours.

Just do it. It's 2 weeks. If this were illegal, that would be absolutely ridiculous.

If it's just for a fortnight, not a regular arrangement, you're fine. If you're really concerned, don't take any money for it.
