Hi all

Well I got the call today for my inspection since being registered, she is coming on 21st June.

I am s**ting it now, She is a lovely lady because it's the same one I had for my pre-reg, but What have I got to get ready for her, what should I do? Also I have to read 7 pages of the EYFS book as I have applied for overnight care, I skimmed through it and it looks loads.

Any help or advice would be grateful

Thanks

okay don't panic

You need to make a list and we can help with that, things like have you got:

Policies and procedures
Risk Assessments
Register up to date

First aid kit checklist
Fire/Evac drill record
Smoke alarm test record

Ofsted reg cert up on display
Ofsted poster WITH THE NEW NUMBER on display
Emergency evacuation plan on display
First Aid cert on display

Local safeguarding procedure to hand

EYFS files or learning journeys for each child
Photographs of the children on display
Examples of the children's work on display

SEF? have you had a go at it yet?

Cert of motor insurance to hand showing business use (this was on a recent report I read, a CM was pulled up on not having the cert available for the inspector to see, poss because it was upstairs with her motor documents)

Child-friendly posters such as Wash Your Hands/pictorial house rules/Welcome poster in different languages

Toy boxes labelled with the contents

A range of resources around diversity

Anything in writing to show that you are aware of Sustainability (recycling and being greener in other words)

Any good to you?

actonchildminder · 08/06/2010 20:22

ah right, you could ask your EY team for help with your SEF. Or failing that, jot down your strengths and weaknesses such as

Strengths : keen to develop your personal knowledge of children and childminding, flexibility in offering overnight care, evidence by courses attended, keeping a Personal Development log

Weaknesses : still developing obs/aessessment regime, starting out so not well known in the community yet, will address this by attending courses/conferring with EY team, by being visible in the community by attending library sessions, toddler groups blah blah

Whip up a quick questionaire for parents for feedback

That kind of thing

safety film, have a browse on Amazon, same for the alarm (I bet you pick one up in Tesco or Sainsbo really easily)

hennipenni · 08/06/2010 21:48

actonminder, re the smoke alarm. Our local officers from our fire station will come out and do a free fire safety check and will fit smoke alarms too. We also get a signed form from them to say they've been which I put in my portfolio. might be worth trying yours?

Al1son · 08/06/2010 21:56

Be careful about getting a fire officer in. I heard about (but never met) a local childminder who was told to put fire doors in upstairs by a fire officer when she was applying to be registered for overnight care. She was then told she had to do it or her insurance wouldn't cover her. It may be a bit of an urban myth/chinese whispers but I wouldn't want that to happen to you, actionchildminder.

hennipenni · 08/06/2010 22:09

I'm registered for overnight care and wasn't told about firedoors upstairs.

HSMM · 08/06/2010 22:33

You don't have to get a fire officer in any more, but I did and he was lovely and certainly didn't mention fire doors. Just checked the smoke alarms, fire blanket and fire escape plan. I got registered fairly easily. Make sure you include it in your risk assessment.

I empathize and sympathize! I have not received my phone call yet, but simply thinking about the impending phone call and inspection gives butterflies in my stomach.

joeypotter · 09/06/2010 14:11

With the SEF...I just had my first inspection post-reg too...and it was enough to have it printed out and I had filled in the first 2/3 of the form. It's a work-in-progress so it's fine not to have it polished to perfection. As long as you show you're aware of it and know what's in it, have given it a bit of a go, that should be fine.

The other thing I would mention would be to have thought about sustainaibility. I was asked about that. So, things like recycling, compost, growing veg, recycling household materials for craft, buying 2nd hand toys, using wooden toys, talking to the children about the environment and limited resources.

Good luck! The lead up is always so much worse than the reality.

thank you for all of your replies.

One thing she did say about overnight care was that I had to look at pages 24, 30,32,34,35,36 and 53 of the statutory framework book.

I can't pinpoint anything specifically (sorry about spelling) on overnight care.
