Last minuet cancellation, what advice would you give?

I sometimes do emergency or whenever needed childminding for a mum I know. She does not have a contract with me as I do not have her children reguarly.

On a few occassions I have been approached for my services. I have had cancellations for different reasons. Should I have taken a deposit up front as sometimes cancellation as been at the last minute?

I have decided that I will give priority to my parents who have contracts with me.

What I would like is advice on how to cover myself from last minute cancellations.

I do the same as you and I make clear upfront at first conversation/email etc that I have a cancellation fee of 4hrs £40 if they cancel within 48hrs of the day booked

all are fine with this and only one didn't pay and I refused to work for her again

I often get asked to work when already booked so this way I still get some money

I always ask for payment in advance when the occasional days are booked, I also charge a higher rate and haven't had any problems yet!

Thanks for that.

If its just an odd day here & there, I would ask for payment at the time of booking. Its not booked til its paid for.

Thanks again. Something to consider.
