Is this a reasonable rate of pay for a nanny in Scotland?

I'm hoping to hire a part-time nanny for my two DD's. I think the hours will be Mon, Tues 8.15-5.30 and Friday 8.15-1.30. I'm thinking about offering a rate between £8-£8.50 gross per hour. I'd need someone with a minimum of 3 years experience, a license + car. I'm trying to get as much information as possible on whether this seems like a reasonable rate of pay? I'm just outside of Dundee (ie an area with a reasonably low cost of living, if that makes any difference). I've looked at some local nanny agencies, and they suggest somewhere between £7.50-£9.50 per hour gross. I just wondered what MN folk thought?

TIA, dontrun.

what you are offering is fine

does seem ok - have a look on your local netmums childcare board and you may find a nanny there

the only prob i see is that you want 2.5days and may need to pay for 3 days as many nannies cant afford to live off 2.5days salary and then nanny can get another 2 day job to fit in

I am a part time nanny north of Dundee. I only do after school now three days a week as I have two DD's of my own. I receive £8 gross.
Out of interest, how easy are you finding it to get someone?

Thanks for those replies - I was wondering if it seemed a bit low, but hopefully not. I was whether the Fridays might be a problem. We could possibly make it 3 full days, Mon-Wed. I'll have to think about that.

That's interesting, kizzycat, thanks. We haven't advertised the job yet. I was wondering whether I'll be able to find anyone - do you think it will be difficult?

I'm not sure tbh, nannies are a rare breed up here!
Which agencies are you using? I only ever found one that was pretty good, A&H in Glasgow. You could try the local colleges to see if any Childcare students would be interested.
I wouldn't worry about the Friday afternoon, doesn't everyone love a long weekend! Oh and the hours sound pretty good, no early starts/late nights.
Right away to sort out my own dd's before heading to work for a rest!
