Hi there,
Wonder if anyone can help out. OVer half term we're thinking of asking a local girl (aged 17 or 18) to do a few hours of childcare for my 7yo. She has done some babysitting for us (£6 per hour), and is in the middle of doing some kind of social care course. She did a placement at my other child's nursery, where she now works on a voluntary basis one afternoon per week.

We have no idea what we should offer her for pay.... Should it be the same as babysitting rates? Or more? Or less? We'd be asking her to do things like go to the park, local library etc, and generally entertain a 7yo boy.
Thanks,
madcows

Hi, I currently babysit for £5/6 per hour for families (im 18) and would charge the same for half term too.
Although would expect a bit more if the parents wanted me to take trips out that would cost money, for example a farm or swimming.

Anyone else? Thought there would be others who pay students for after-school care, that kind of thing, who could give me an idea of what to pay...
thanks!

Offer the same as babysitting and see what she says.

I would offer the same as babysitting or a day rate (slightly less then the hourly rate), she is a teenager and will be grateful for the money and the experience.

However be sure to pay the costs for any activities for her and the LO's.

Yes, would def'ly pay for any costs. Thanks for this. We'll probably offer a little less than babysitting, and see what she says. Thanks for your input.
