Night time nanny - recommendations and advice please

I will be giving birth to my 2nd in October and want to hire a night time nanny. Does anybody have any recommendations of agencies to go through (I'm in North London) or experience of what I should look out for? Found lots of agencies on google but not I'm not sure where to start.

Anybody used one recently and want to share experiences good or bad? How much did you pay? Does Nanny need a bedroom of their own or will they share the nursery or will they just sit up with the the monitor?

Thanks ladies

when i nn i am either in nursery or in spare bedroom and have baby in with me

i sleep when baby sleeps, tho with one ear/eye opne |(im a light sleeper) unlike the nn who someone on mn did a thread about and slept through baby being sick and the mum calling her

i generally charge £12ph tho have earnt £15 and do 10 hrs 9-7, or 8-6 depending where i am working the next day

Generally night nannies will either have a maternity/sleep training qualification or lots of experience. The more experience/qualifications the more expensive they are! Generally, as Blondes says, night nannies sleep in the guest bedroom or nursery and do 10 hour shifts. Being less experienced I charge less than Blondes - around £10 an hour. When I started I charged £7 an hour to get the overnight experience.

If you're in London I recommend Eden and Nannies Inc unreservedly as a nanny! There are usually lots on Gumtree and Nannyjob though if you fancy saving the agency fee. Good ones to get booked up - I think one on here said she was booked to the end of the year - so you might want to start looking now.

Are you planning to BF or FF? If you are going to BF look for someone with experience of supporting that on their CV. They should be able to bring the baby to you when hungry, help you if necessary and take the baby to settle later.

Night nannies usually share a room with baby either a bed in nursery or spare room and have baby in with them in moses basket.

Rates can vary from £7/£8 an hr for someone with baby experience just starting out night nannying (good idea if you want someone basically so you can get a nights sleep rather than routine advice/support) upto £15 an hr for a more experienced night nanny. Does depend a little on area.

If you are breast feeding baby can be brought to you for feed then settled or nanny can knock your door and you can come to baby whichever works better for you - I usually try to encourage expressing where possible and give an expressed feed during the night so mum can get lots sleep.

If bottle feeding night nanny with do everything.

Decide what you what to happen in the morning if baby is asleep do you want baby placed in cot and nanny lets self out (I have done this and left a note/sent a text saying how night went as baby fed at 6am then at 9.30am so mum used to get up at 9am) or do you want a knock on door to say nanny is leaving, or will you ensure you are up before nanny leaves. Obv if baby is awake and needs seeing to then you would be up.

If night nanny gets time they will wash and pop bottles in steriliser they have used overnight if asked.

Good luck with regards to agencies there is one called night nannies, also www.kidsmatter.uk.com or you could try and hope someone on here can help if you let people know hrs and how many nights. Most night nannies work 9pm-7am (can be negotiated) and do between 2-6 nights a week.
