I was going to register with an agency this week but looking at the application form am a bit at asking me what dress size I am.

What do you think?

For a uniform?

24hournanny · 17/05/2010 19:51

Never thought of that louii, thanks but do agencies provide uniforms?

It is probably to check you are not obese or unable to look after a child due to your size.

24hournanny · 17/05/2010 19:53

Yes Fab, that was my first thought.

Are you sure youv'e got the right kind of "agency"

jenduff · 17/05/2010 19:54

I wouldn't say that being obese means you can't look after a child though and I would be appalled if size was used as a way to filter job applications

24hournanny · 17/05/2010 19:54

At work, yes its a childcare agency

You don't have to complete all of a form - they don't need the information and it could possibly breach human rights, such as your right to be whatever size you like.
However they will also probably want a photo.
It's like the age question - don't complete it if you are not happy to provide the info.
Personally I have no idea what dress size I am ... Form therefore may breach sex discrimination act as it's clearly aimed at a female candidate. I presume they would not insist that a bloke completed the form fully!

Danthe4th · 17/05/2010 23:10

Lets have a look at the form then, have you got a link, i'm intrigued to see it, or rather nosey!!!!

24hournanny · 18/05/2010 11:18

I don't want to name the agency as I might still register with them as they do have a lot of maternity posts.

when i filled in an application for a summer holiday job on a playscheme it requested dress size but that because they supplied uniforms (t-shirts) so may just be that as its an agency they then need to pass that sort of info over. As far as i know it had no baring on me getting the job.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 18/05/2010 11:33

I read the report the agency sent to my current employer. On it it stated that I was a 'full figured woman'. Now that fact that I am built like a soviet weightlifter does not make me a bad nanny.
Then also asked what my parents did for a living.
I refuse to fill in any questions like that.
As long as you can run around, walk up a flight of steps with a child without having an MI you are fine.
Most agencies ask these stupid questions for some stupid reason unknown to me.

FrakkedUpTheElection · 18/05/2010 12:21

I would think it relevant if you were registering with Harmony, which is the only agency I know that have a uniform policy, but not otherwise. I personally don't care about forms which ask age, weight, height, dress size etc. Although they might look at mine slightly weirdly when I state my size as 36 - I honestly have no idea what the British equivalents are any more.

Liking the point about the sex-discimination nick! At a guess, what dress size do you reckon you are?!

24hournanny · 18/05/2010 13:39

I don't particularly care either but just wondered if it was normal these days. I started nannying around 1981 and I don't remember it been an issue.

thebody · 19/05/2010 13:20

'full figured woman'.. what a statement to make about anyone and what a bloody cheek...

only one time when size matters!!!!!

nannynick · 19/05/2010 20:31

FUTE - no idea what dress size I am, though expect I'm a size less now than in January, as I joined a gym in Feb and go quite often.
