We have a fantastic nanny who does around 30 hours a week and is keen for more.

BUT my 4th baby is due in Aug and DH planning to ponce off on some work trips 2 months later, and am already anxious about the sleepless nights!

what amount should i offer to pay her for a 'night shift'? same hourly rate or a cash bonus? be nice to know what people think is fair..

Ask her - she may have a set rate for night nannying already.

If not then night nannying is usually a higher hourly rate than day but depends on qualifications and experience.

i charge more for my night hourly rate then i do my daytime rate as obv unsociable hours and lack of sleep

agree ask her if she would do nights and what she would like to earn

but yes think of her usual rate plus a tad more

ie i charge £10ph day and £12ph night, so for a 10hr shift nightime is £20 more than daytime

By 'night shift' are you meaning taking care of baby overnight... thus the nanny being awake all night? If so, how would that fit with your nannies day job... they will be exhausted.

Perhaps describe what you would expect the nanny to be doing during the night... that may help people to give you some idea of what rate would be suitable.

thanks v much for advice! will do all of the above.
maybe it'll be a sleep-right-through kind of baby.. wishful thinking!

You could always see what she says she may want some experience of night nannying and if she doesnt already have experience of night nannying I would offer same as daytime rate if she has then she will have a rate she uses.

Alternatively you could always look for a night nanny willing to do a few nights whilst husband is away and do some other ad-hoc nights as needed maybe before he goes away and after if needed. You would look to pay between £10-£15 an hr depending on area and night nannies qualifications and experience.

I am due baby beg sept and keep telling myself it will be an early through the nighter - bearing in mind I am a night nanny I can see some flaws appearing already in my plan!!!

eastmidland, if your baby doesnt sleep through the night from an early age i shall be very alarmed/dissapointed

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 09/05/2010 12:55

Ha ha blondes I will be alarmed and disappointed, hey at what you say and what you do are 2 different things at the moment I am saying at 12wks will be sleeping through and in own room so if at xmas I still have a waking baby feel free to nag me ++++++ (baby is prob being born by c-section end of aug)
