live in nanny holiday schedule- how to manage?

We're going away on holiday soon but due to work timings are only able to get away in July.
On employment, my nanny said that she's very flexible with her leave and prefers to go when her employers go.
I've just booked our tickets now and have asked our nanny about her plans but she is not very happy with going in July as tickets are more expensive (for us as well but we don't have a choice).
What can I do in this situation? I've considered offering to pay the full difference compared to a June ticket or half the difference or let her go when she wants but then do I just lose out on the 10 days I'm gone?

opinions aprreciated...

It's hard to know what to suggest really. I was always happy to go on hols when my bosses where going as i always sorted something out and really most of the holidays where in school holidays anyway and more expensive. Most nannies have a choice of 2 weeks holiday and parents 2 weeks. What is in your contract?

When is she expecting to go away on holiday has she mentioned it? you'll have to have a frank chat i guess.

What does your contract say?

Normally you can dictate when she takes half her holiday (like nannyj says). Legally you can dictate the lot. It doesn't matter a bit that tickets are more expensive in July - you would be an extremely generous employer if you paid the difference but please don't feel that you have to.

Haven't actually looked closely at the contract but will do as its a standard one. When she joined, she said that she's very flexible with holidays and will play it by ear and has been quite good about replacing days etc as needed.
Its a long haul so more expensive than usual but she keeps saying that xyz got it for £250 and now its 4 plus for a July ticket. I checked lastminute for her and put in different dates/months but can't find anything so cheap- at least £100 more for non peak periods.
Its interesting to hear what both of you have to say though. I'm very new at this and not very assertive.

normally nanny chooses half of holiday and employer chooses half

therefor nanny COULD go when she wants to (if she uses her entitlment to choose when she wants to go)

AND you choose those dates you want, (and nanny can just have time off at home then)

I only get holidays when my bosses do so I am always on hoidays in peak times. It is part and parcel of caring for school aged childen. You budget and deal with it.
She does not have to go away.
