Hello
Sorry I havent posted in a very long time (blush)
I wanted to know if there were such an insurance scheme out there that I can pay each month that would cover me if I had to take time off due to illness?
Im asking as Ive been ill in hospital since last week and Im more than likely going to need 3 weeks off in total and of course Im losing money by the day. In total Im going to have lost over £800!
Im more than happy to pay for some thing that will pay out if this ever happens again
Any help on this would be appriciated
Em

Sorry youv'e been poorly, hope youre feeling better.

The kind of insurance youre looking for is Income Replacement Cover, Business Interuption and Critical Illness is also available. I've had most of these policys in the past, never claimed on them though. However I had a friend who tried to claim on the Income replacement policy they had (same one I did) and didnt get a bean, the exclusions are numerous and vague enough to not pay for most things, when I looked at it properly it wasn't worth anything, just the £50 + a month it was costing.

I get my insurance through my bank so if you call yours they will point you in the right direction for a quote. I do have something now which is free with my personal account which pays out £150 a day when I'm in hosp with a room thrown in. I reckon this is great for nowt, as I wouldnt pay for a policy again far too exp, you will probably be better off putting the same amount away each month, as a just in case fund.

Also any payments you get apparently affect any benefits you may be entitled to if you are off sick, you will have a waiting period as well before the policy pays - if it does - and you will still have to pay the premiums as well, so unless your policy is for megga bucks, you may actually be worse off, as we were on our mortgage payment protection policy.

Oh yeah and the policy I was sold didnt actually cover s/employed people

argh sary my boyfriend has morgage vcover to pay about 450 a month if he is off sick? is it nor worth it?

If you have already been ill the insurance wouldn't cover you for the same thing, also they often don't pay out for the first few months anyway. I would put some money away for emergency rather than paying an insurance company.

Thankyou all!
atworknotworking- I shall definatly phone my bank and find out.I pay a monthly charge for my account so it might be covered!
Hayleycm-mortgage is fine my husband pays that its just all the other bits and bobs that add up dance classes, dinner money, milk money, brownies, after school clubs, mobile bill, internet and so on
danthe4th-I think in the furture Ill put money to one side so if this ever happens (i hope not) again Ill have some money saved up
