Yes, not sure it's worth doing though but in my case it helps identify me as a childcarer rather than being a strange bloke hanging around the playground.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 19/04/2010 18:20

good point about your partic circs, Nick

I have seen CMs with the fleeces with their names and it's a great way to advertise yourself

atworknotworking · 19/04/2010 18:58

I've been thinking of doing this, don't at the moment, and am full but I think its a bit more bis like, also easier for teachers to recognise on pick ups. Also would be easier picking stuff out to wear as I am uninspired and up way to early for accessories

Anyone know a good place to get cheapish ones, they all seem to want a huge order.

vistaprint do free t-shirts quite often and all you pay is the p&p. They aren't great but I have a few and do wear them especially for messy play. I have an NCMA fleece which has got me some business in the school yard in the past.

HSMM · 19/04/2010 19:52

I do. It explains why I have a crowd of assorted ages (and styles) of children with me. Also at toddler groups, mums will come up to me and ask me about the business, because they are returning to work soon, so it is a good advert. It is also a safety thing when you are out and about ... should I get knocked cold, people know the children with me are probably not mine.

You do have to behave when you are advertising on your clothes, car, etc though

I wear a polo shirt and a fleece (and I've got a coat as well) with a lovely cat motive with my full name above it and ofsted registered childminder embroidered under it. I wear it every day and it is the best thing I have ever done. It means that people know I am a childminder which is good for advertising and security.

As a parent, I think it is a great idea and walking advertisement. As HSMM says, you do have to be on your best behaviour for that to work.

Embroidery I have found to be best but the costs are high. A local embroidery company may not have minimum order quantities, or will have a low minimum order, such as 5 garments. However the setup charge could be fairly high, often £20+ for setup, with garments costing £16 to £25 each including the stitching. Costs will vary quite a bit depending on the size of the design plus other things like back text.
It is best to go and chat with the company doing the embroidery as they will know what will reproduce and what won't.

Vinyl printed t-shirts can be a bit cheaper and good for text. Digital print is good for images. If you hunt around with Google you will find companies online which don't have minimum orders. A t-shirt with vinyl print text will probably cost in the region of £12-£15 plus postage.

Not quite the same thing but an excellent idea I saw at a country park was a CM in a hi vis jacket with name of childminding service and her charges also in hi vis jackets with her phone number on - presumably in case they got separated - but would imagine a hi vis jacket would be pretty in your face advertising.

HSMM · 19/04/2010 23:36

hee hee jenduff wasn't me, was it? With my hi viz jackets with my best marker pen logos on.

Numberfour · 20/04/2010 06:53

I used hi vis tops for my children for the first time this holiday on an outing to Alice Holt Forest and what a blessing it was! Will def be doing this all the time in future.

I have been thinking of getting myself some tops like this for ages (logo'd ones) but just don't get around to it. I don't wear smart clothes at all, but I do find that childminding ruins whatever clothes I wear!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/04/2010 09:57

i personally dont but i work for my friends agency and she got several shirts printed form vista and i wear those if doing a wedding creche etc

they were free and paid £1.99 for P&P and look fab

well we have done it we all got a cheap hoddy from pri marni for a 5 quid mens department and had our names printed on the back in bright colours and embrodery on the front saying childminder we each chose our own colour so that as a group we can be scene and the kids can spot us there ar 12 of us who work independently but the amount of buisness we have got is great and the teachers and parents see us as well out of all of us there is only 3 places left and u can claim it back on your tax as long as it has a logo it cost me about 15 pound get it done x
