Quick Nanny Agency Question

Quick question. I used a nanny agency to help me find a temp nanny at quite short notice just after Xmas. We engaged a nanny via the agency, and happily paid quite expensive fees, for four weeks, in addition to the nanny's pay. I actually did most of the legwork with the nanny in terms of making sure she understood our quite complicated routine, but was grateful for an agency putting me in touch with the lovely nannny. We liked her (DS loves her) and stayed in touch.
So the nanny contacted me after her time with us came to an end and offered her services for babysitting and ad hoc nannying. Our new FT nanny had holiday booked so rather than taking holiday myself,to cover the childcare, I asked the temp nanny to come back. And now the agency have sent me a bill for fees for the holiday cover, even though I didn't book the temp nanny via them, this time. Do I pay the bill for agency fees? Even though I did all the legwork again?

you need to look at the contract

I think within a certain time it is usual to have to pay them for introducing you so to speak.

TBH I'd be a bit cross with the nanny for blabbing but I guess if it wasn't discussed....

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 13/04/2010 08:40

yes you do as they introduced you originally.

I work as a nanny and always tell my agencies if I get asked back at any time and then leave it to the agency to decide if they will charge the family or not. I do make the families aware that the agency may charge though.

I get a fair amount of work through agencies and would hate to get on the wrong side of them

ditto paula/mummy

Aah thank you for your answers. I kind of thought I would end up paying the bill, don't want to land lovely temp nanny in hot water with the agency. Thanks for reading!

As daysoftheweek said, I would be cross with nanny.

Danthe4th · 13/04/2010 23:26

The nanny would have signed a contract with the agency so I think its a bit unfair to be cross at her for being honest.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2010 09:20

dont be cross with the nanny

if we dont tell the agency then they agency wont put work our way next time as that is how they make money/run their business

Hello, I'm not cross with the nanny, she's great and it's not her fault that she works via an agency - well it is, but you know what I mean. That's the system I guess, next time I will make it a bit clearer from the beginning with the agency.
